Recently I've been all over anything Sci-Fi. Mostly Space Combat like Freespace 2, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident and of course Homeworld 2.

Basically a collection of Youtube Videos I've found based off of Freespace 2 (and her mods) and Nexus. We all know what Homeworld 2 is all about :p.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident Videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwL3MjmZ_G0&fmt=18 <-- Star Trek mod for Nexus.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3PpzjB_DhA&fmt=18 <-- Babylon 5 mod for Nexus.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mvXBk2RhYI&fmt=18 <-- Battlestar Galactica mod for Nexus.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4osuwGcYl4c&fmt=18 <-- Unmodded Nexus.

Freespace 2 Videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HFEmGcJcWA&fmt=18 <-- FS2SCP (Source Code Project).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1Jx-KL0EnE&fmt=18 <-- BSG: Beyond the Red Line mod.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs6f1EL7n0M&fmt=18 <-- The Babylon Project.

Any other games that could pique my interest? I've already beaten Freelancer 2 times, although I'm considering re-installing it to play the Star Wars based modifications in the works. Oh and there is a Star Wars mod for Freespace 2 that is in the works. It is known as Fate of the Galaxy mod, and you can check their ModDB profile here. [http://www.moddb.com/mods/fate-of-the-galaxy]

Also forgot to mention, there's a neat tool for Nexus called the Nexus Skirmisher. It's a little tool that lets you make your own Skirmish missions for Nexus. Check that out here [http://arparso.de/nexus/]

A space combat game, actually its more a space sim, i played for some time is X3:reunion and X3:terran conflict, although its based more on making your own empire and fleet of trade and combat ships, i played it just for the fighting. Just cheat yourself a nice and decent ship, spawn 30+ xenon and kill 'em.

Eve Online?
I played EVE for a long time. I since gave my account away. I had 4 Battleships, and err... was well on my way to carrier piloting. Needless to say there was well over a Billion ISK worth of stuff on my dude.

I found the Universe at War mod for Nexus. It's surprisingly hard to find. It's in 9 parts.

Also I didn't really like X3: Re-union. I have it on my Steam account. The slow pace of the game just killed me really. It was pretty good looking visually though. Why cheat in X3 to get Space Sim goodness when I can just play Freespace 2? :p

Darkstar One looks pretty good. I'd recommend you check out Heresy Wars if you like those types of games. It's not out yet, but there's a demo out there.

Haha Sundog, I remember that game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SunDog:_Frozen_Legacy I had it on emulator at one point. It was sweet because you could walk around in your own ship.

EDIT: I might give Allegiance another go. I remember playing it and not knowing what the hell I was doing back in the day. I guess I should just read that manual.

Nothing will ever top the Elite games. Elite 4 comes early 2010 Woo Hoo! and if they can pull it off, they will have proper online play (full control, full movement,no dice rolls!) instead of that bullshit EVE online system.

Elite has long been the gold standard for such games. It occurs to me that if they built a functioning mercantile system in the upcoming Star Wars MMORPG, they'd be able to attract a large audience of people who would rather play Han Solo than a Jedi/Sith.

They kind of did that in Star Wars Galaxies with the Jump to Lightspeed expansion...

On topic: I'd throw an eye on Infinity [http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=33] a Space combat MMO in development, or Jumpgate Evolution, a similar MMO in development.

Evochron: Renegades is pirdy nice too...

I really love X3. And spacer fans out there should get up, right at this second, and go and get it. Don't sit there thinking about it or anything. Just go. Now. Get it.

Elite has been in development hell for ages now. I am hoping it comes out and is up to expectations but after so long it just seems to be a pie in the sky.

X3 truely is a worthy successor to Elite. But I am talking about Reunion, not Terran Conflict, which I have not played.

I'd recommend X3 over X2 simply due to the GOD Engine and the flight mechanics being superior.
