Space Games

Hey everyone, it's Saturday and I'm looking for some nice spaceship games.

Anyone played any good ones semi-recently? Games with exploration is a plus. Currently my best shot is Sins of a Solar Empire, which I've been playing since it came out.

One of my major contenders right now is Star Ruler, which came out today; however, I haven't heard anything, good or bad, about it, and there isn't a demo up. So in lieu of that, anyone have any good suggestions? They don't have to be RTS, I just like space.

Freelancer is what instantly comes to mind. The multiplayer is a blast.
If you ask me, Moonbase Alpha would look far better on the Shattered Horizon engine - UE3's ugly red haze doesn't suit (heehee, get it?) the game.

Your main hub IS a spaceSHIP. and your fighting against a race of gigantic spaceSHIPS.

But if thats the way it must be then galactic civilizations 2 is great fun. If you buy it with all three expansions, some games can last months...

Starfox is an excellent Flying Rail Shooter.
It takes place in Space as well as on different planets.

The SNES game and 64 are the best.

Assault was pretty good if you can look past the boring 3rd Person Shooter Missions.

Command Mission DOES NOT EXIST.

Adventures is a good adventure game with some Space missions, not that many though.

Sword of the Stars is a cool strategy game, op. X3 is pretty badass if you're looking for a space flight game.

I actually know very little about this series, do you do much more that just shoot ships?

Freelancer is what instantly comes to mind. The multiplayer is a blast.

I think I might get this. I haven't played it, and what I just read on the Google made it seem interesting.

Some other games I'm considering are Flotilla and Freespace, but I've played neither.

I love it. Its not really a match for SOSE but its still a lot of fun.

Don't forget Rogue Leader as well, those games were aaaaaall the cool space battles in all of star wars boiled down into one sweet title!

Not at all. Like I said, not really a "space" game, per se, but the first thing that came to my mind...so I'll thank you for making me remember it!

OT: If you have a source game on Steam, go with Eternal Silence. It's like Team Fortress (classic) in space.

OR if you like old school 3D games, Terminal Velocity. You can still order THAT one from 3D-Realms.
