Does anyone remember the first SPAZ? It was an indie game on Steam that was pretty popular at the time. The sequel is out now. Early Access is actually being used for tuning and adding secondary features like multiplayer; you know, like good Early Access games are supposed to be instead of just being used as paid alphas.

It's a 2D free-camera space shooter with strategy and empire-building overworld elements. 20 bucks. So just check out the Steam page if it catches your eye.

I wouldn't normally make a shilling thread, but I've been waiting for this game for 3 years, and the devs are having trouble getting traction with some Youtubers that don't like taking advance copies of EA games, even though it's extremely complete and pre-tested. This is the only non-Steam forum I frequent, so it's the only one I will post it on.

For those of you in Europe, "spaz" isn't a very offensive term in NA. It's just about as bad as calling someone a "dummy" here, and both the developers are Canadian. Yes, there are only 2 developers for this game. I mean, c'mon, that's kind of impressive I think. They were able to take the big success of the first game and fund themselves this long to make SPAZ 2.

First one was fun. I remember going to low level places to suck up crewmembers for fighting harder areas, and my friend was watching
He pointed out how monstrous what I was doing was haha.

Yeah, I had quite a bit of fun with SPAZ. The fact that it hit a nostalgic note for the old Escape Velocity series probably didn't hurt.

I still play SPAZ from time to time, a really nicely built game with surprising in-depth features that even the biggest games miss.

But I can't really get into a discussion about SPAZ 2 if all we have are trailers, come back on 19th and let us talk then. Although I am certainly not fond of unfinished titles, who knows what really goes down by the time devs get bored.

I've been waiting for this on my wish list for over three years. Almost four. Glad to think I can play it later this month. Very excited.
The original was lots of fun. I only cranked up 220 hours and bought it on sale. Not sure how I found it originally but I had a lot of fun with it. I think it was through the Escapist. One of the then-featured escapist that produced a show on the site. [!!] I think it was Zero Punctuation who had a voice in the game. That's how. :D

If the old Space Pirates and Zombies goes on sale, you should get it. It works very well as a high quality flash game with a complete story and balanced and fun mechanics and play style to entertain you for hours.

Ah well, i do look forward to it as well. The game was silly, funny, but also a solid game. I also love games where you play as one man/woman/ship/thing, but everything works without you: People do war, build shit, build relationships etc. - and you can see how your actions ripple through the construct and change things.

One of the reasons i like "Mount & Blade" so much (And look forward to M&B 2 - Bannerlord), or if we stay in space: "Starsector" formaly "Starfarer" which is pretty much a similar game (You control ONE ship, all other ships in your armada just follow your commands and all the factions just do their thing, you are free to do what you want)

About bloody time, I've been waiting to throw my money at this sequel for quite a while.

First SPAZ was this pleasant little surprise but ultimately whilst the universe felt alive and populated, it wasn't very reactionary. Seems sequel is gonna help address that and take a leaf out of Galactic Rangers book when it comes to having independent captains running around.

There was another trailer with better music. It's older though -- the UI seems to be more basic and the visuals, especially explosions, seem to have improved since then.

This is the first time I have heard of this game. From the look of the trailer, it does interest me (ship building and suvival) so I gonna put this on my wishlist.
