Space Sims

So after reading the thread on the Eve Competition, I was wondering...since Elite...and basically Eve, are there actually any decent Space Sims out there any more?

Because...lets be honest...there's something a little unatmospheric about eve for a few months until you get into it...and even then it can get pretty lonely when you aren't in a war.

So my question is, can anyone recomend a good space game? Prefferably one that has some movement of characters/avatars, although not essential.

People always say the X series, but I don't like it... Freelancer is where I'd be at - it's literally Very Good.

Yeah, I'm looking into the X-Series now...but £30 on Steam? Is it really worth £30?

Just checked out Freelancer, from the pics and descriptions it seems like X3 is more impressive.

I think I'll download a demo for X3...check that out.

I really couldn't get into X - when Furburt says its slow he means its slow. I know some people who absolutely swear by it as the be all and end all of space sims, though.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. It's more along the lines of Homeworld or ST:Bridge Commnader, but damn is it a good game.

Freelancer was a great game with mods. The first Homeworld game was also good and X2 the threat is good if slow at the beginning.
