Personally I like the long, hard, and full of spacemen.

That is to say, I like commanding space ships which look a lot like how a modern day human would build them, a ship of the line which is literally a line, made out of cold, functional metal. The main weapon systems are composed of giant ballistic cannons that can be spotted almost immediately on the ship with other, smaller ballistic or missile related systems for support. Lasers should not usually be included unless being used as point defense.

An example: The Rokh from EVE

I just looks so right. If I could even begin to wrap my head around EVE I would make it my goal to make this my main ship even though people keep going on about how much better the Raven is. Speaking of which, here is an example of the type of spaceships I don't like.

The Raven from EVE
EWWWW!

Despite sharring the gunmetal grey look to the hull that the Rohk had, I just don't like how asymmetrical it is for starters nor how it does not follow the whole straight line philosophy. To top it off, it's primary attack uses missiles. MISSILES! No primary weapon system should include missiles! It's just..Not..Right..

I wonder what this all says about me? It would be an interesting experiment to relate people choice of fictional space ship aesthetics to their personality.

So what types of ships do you guys like?

I like really cool, sleek looking ones, the ones that look like they spend their time darting through Star Wars style asteroid fields, that would have a small crew of a dozen or so people. Something like this:

Apparently it's from Star Trek, but I just googled sleek spaceship and choose one I liked the look of

Some of the ones from Endless Space are quite pretty, for the little that you get to use them.

I like the really strange, un-aerodynamic designs (space, after all).

Functionally built ships. The Borg, I like. UNSC Bricks, I like. I like a large amount of ships. They just have to be capable of functioning. Which means that anything with wings is a good thing, because they aren't wings, they're radiative systems. If it looks like it's built with air in mind, I hate it.

Oh. And fighters can suck my ass. They don't exist in space.

Not much different here, I like mine long, hard, and full of seamen.

Not really. I like something curvy, versatile, which looks vaguely aerodynamic but has plenty of room for all the equipment and facilities it needs. Ugly appendages not necessary. It should have missiles and an ion cannon as its main weapons, possibly with a hangar for drones and smaller spacecraft. All of which have to be retractable for FTL travel.

I'm not sure I entirely like the drab gunmetal interiors of every single human spaceship these days.

Something like this would be a start:

As would this:

Needs to have a mixture of light and cosy for crew quarters. Utility and service decks can be darker, of course.

full on star destroyers for me. Massive, lots of guns, and when you are on the receiving end your about to piss yourself.

Like Homeworld 2:

- Armored look, like it can take a beating, but still rife with details

- Modules that stand out and work, bays that ships fly out of, ports that resource collectors dock with, marine transports that fire off pods that attach to enemy ships and board them.

My favorites:

The UNSC Frigates from Halo are pretty cool too.

It's been said already, but lets be honest.

These are badass looking.
I especially like how the smaller ships are basically just platforms for a giant gun. I can't find a picture but I remember seeing them firing at one point in Reach and Halo 3.

But yeah, now that the human fleet isn't completely outmatched by the aliens their ships are actually pretty bad-ass and match all my criteria for ships I would like to command.

USNC ships are always cool, and I like the military spaceships in the AvP-games. My personal favorites have to be these babies though...

Space Marine Battle Barges are just awesome, and the Eternal Crusader is one of the most badass in the galaxy

I've recently become a big fan of Star Wars ships, since I've started watching the Clone Wars cartoon. I like how the function of everything on the ship can be readily assessed by just looking at them. Those are the engines, those are the guns, etc. etc.

Previously, I was a fan of organic-looking ships, like the Leviathan from Farscape and the Andromeda from the show of the same name.

My favorite ship thus far, I just saw in the last two episodes of Clone Wars, It's thus far not very detailed and just called "Jedi Cruiser".

same as last time this topic was asked. i like the vell-os psychic projection ships, due to my preference for relying on my own power rather than tools. also i prioritize function over aesthetics, though they're not unpleasant to look at either.

Warhammer 40000 ships are just space-borne cathedrals covered with guns.

The majesty of a place of worship combined with enough firepower to level continents, what isn't there to like?

Special mention goes to the TEC and Vasari ships of Sins of a Solar Empire.

I kind of like opposite ends of the spectrum. I love ships that seem to be practically built, ones that you can see the hardpoints, and the thought towards expandability and versatility, things that can be adapted for different purposes.

Then I also like the ultra refined, sleek, almost hand-crafted cool. Basically something that looks aerodynamic and feels like nothing is out of place. Even if the rational side of me yells that its ridiculous for them to make an aerodynamic ship that flies through a place with no air...
