If you don't have this game, pick it up, Seriously. You can get Demos on Xbox and PC (and i think the PSN too) so, check it out.

And "The Line" is a pretty damn accurate title, cause this game makes you cross a few... i for one always thought that a game can bypass gameplay flaws and even storytelling flaws if the presentation if good enough, and let me tell you this... as far as military squad shooters go, this one get any passes it needs from me. And the flaws it has, not only they are not all that great, but easily things you can get around with a bit of getting used to it.

The game really does present itself really well, and i'm not just talking about "looking pretty", the Amosphere, the art, if you think a city covered in sand will look repetitive, think again... It's intense from star to finish, it's tight and being short is a bad thing only in the sense that i wish this story lasted much longer.

The gameplay is simple enough, cover based shooter. But there ARE a few highlights... the enemies share a Dumb/Smart AI... where they will try to flank you, they will follow the orders you hear they shouting (and the fact that they use the same tactical language you do is actually quite interesting to hear in the firefight) the writing is sharp, the voice acting and character animation is truly top notch and the music is subtle but energetic which really surprised me... in one moment you're hearing pop rock blasting over the speakers around you... and on the very next some rock rifts are making the battlefield look more intense. It's powerful but never too loud, which is really pleasant to hear.

And you also have your squadmates, and i have a full on Mass Effect vibe out of this. It feels really like ME3 combat, but just without magical powers... the Enemy Ai sometimes does get a bit suicidal (although there was ONE guy who trully was suicidal rushing at my team with a Knife, and the banter about that guy coming from my squad right after it, was really interesting to hear.) and the friendly Ai sometimes does position itself badly on the field, but more often than not they are sharp, with you, responsive and competent. Quite often i see myself turning my back on a enemy because i just tagged him and i just know my squadmates have my back while i take out the guys trying to flank us, it's a great feeling.

A very small thing to notice is how your character Id's the targets on the field, which i think was pretty cool. Is the target next to a vending machine? The character acknowledges this in his command, on a ledge, same and so on and on...

As for the story itsel, i'll keep it short, first cause the game is short ( haven't beaten it yet, but it seems it clocks on 7 hours on the highest difficulties with 100% completion) but also cause it's best experienced not told, that's why i recommend you pick the demo and don't go around watching videos of it just yet...

The characters decay, change, evolve... and it's really telling. Hardly ever have i seen a game where the ON Screen banter on the characters gets more rabid, intense, desperate and "colorful" the worst their situation get down the storyline... it's really a nice touch and something that really gets your attention if you give it to the game.

Just to highlight a couple of set pieces i had played (with spoilers, minor, nothing huge, but just in case)

It got me REALLY pumped when you are going down the streets of Dubai at one point and you see the local militia burning up cause the USA Military forces used White Phosphorus on them , the air is filled in this White-Greenish haze and it's quite surreal, then you see this armored dude in protective gear waltzing between the flames towards you and everything is in a semi-slow motion at the momment... it's really, really surreal. The impact if FELT.

Then, just a few parts later you have the option of applying the SAME White Phosphorus on a USA Military Camp that is "most likely" to have gone rogue... it's all about survival at this point, as you are being hunted down, You can just shower W.P. on them, and you do so by controlling an overhead camera on a Laptop, and with each blast there is a reflection on your charater's face on the screen... just a small touch that really drives it home when it dawns what you are really doing to these people... and you go around watching your camera, picking the troops off... and then just on the top part of the screen you see that they had a somewhat large group of civilians with them... not sure if they are prisoners or if they were rescued... i just know that i've put them inside my blast radius...

That part honestly made me feel unconfortable.

This is a well crafted, polished and detailed Shooter, one that gives attention to it's SP campaing and one you can replay again and again, Multiple endings and variable outcomes (although the story is still pretty linear) will give you an in depth perspective of a military mission gone from bad to worst to fucking hell on earth.

You are here for the story, for the characters. You have a competent shooter with great visual ambiance that doesn't shove it's Graphical Cinematic set pieces in your face with cutscenes and scripted events... you always feel immersed in the action and pushing the story forward... and the consequences are felt, there are no heroes in Dubai, and by the ending you will question if there were ever any villains too...

Here are a couple of screenshots i took, and again, my recomendation.... check this one out. If only to make a point that this game is BETTER than COD or MOH... cause it really is.

This game deserves some love people, give it a chance.

EDIT: AH! Yes, i forgot... i post this as a "PC" game, because, from what i hear around it seems the PC controls are a bit more tight than the Xbox controls... i never had a single problem stringing together Dashes, Get in cover, vault cover and Melee with Quick presses of the spacebar and left shift.

You CAN mess it up, but no more than most shooters bug out a button press or another...

Definitely been playing the game, with its grim stuff. And in regards to the spoilered part you put, I had trouble playing after chapter 7. Not because it sucked, but because I felt disgusted with myself for what I did. That shows a game can get to you right there!

I hear ya... although for me, the momment where i truly gave pause was a bit closer to the end after you find Lugo on the settlement.

Never thought a Military Shooter would have such a passive standoff situation feel like a goddamn boss fight, but there you have it. Truly pause for thought before picking what to do.

Going to wait a little bit to pick up this title, the game has only been out for 5 days and digital distributors are already discounting it at 25-30%, I'll wait a few more weeks and get it at like 50% off. This is one of those games that just didn't get any footing in the PC market like LA Noire or Alan wake and just got their prices repeatedly slashed very quickly.

I played the demo and it seemed to be pretty good (if a bit generic), but the thing that ruined it for me was that I thought pretty much all of the guns sounded really weak. Nothing ruins a shooter for me faster than that.

It is actually a really solid game, probably the first modern shooter where the story is the main draw, for once it's not just American warporn, no this is the proper grim side of things.
The rest is pretty much standard modern shooter mechanics, if you like those then this will feel right at home.

The demo doesn't do it full justice because the Demo only show the mechanics.... the deeper you get into Dubai, the deeper you get into the story, that's where the meat really is.

As for it being discouted, i totally see that. It's an awesome game but i'm totally against charging $60 bucks for a 5 hour experience. If you can pick it up at $40 i say you'll be totally satisfied, at $30-35 it's a deal.

One thing i appreciate by it is that, story wise, the game does not hold your hand... it considers you intelligent enough to put the pieces together, and it's the first Military Shooter that i recall ever to do what it does in the ending, i can't spoil it cause i thought it was just awesome... but thinking back on it, it was the most subtle 4th wall breaking i ever seen in these types of games
