I am willing to admit that I love special, collectors, legendary and limited edition game packages. Even though I usually forget or ignore the extras after the first week, with the exception of the Halo 3 legendary edition (the master chief helmet) cos that is just awesome.

Some of the special editions that are being released now are absolutely ridiculous (they're awesome but ridiculous nevertheless).

Now. All though all of these are indescribably awesome. Will any of them ever truly turn out worth the money? I, like many, am prone to shelling out the cash for these things [sub](I have already pre-ordered Starcraft II)[/sub]

Escapists. Encouragement? Disgust? How many of you have already pre-ordered one of these or some other that I have neglected. Share your opinions or legendary tales.

In regards to SC2, someone did a brief tally of estimated costs for the Special Edition and found that it costs much less than it would if you picked up all the stuff separately. In fact I think the artbook alone accounts for the extra $40 to make it Special Edition. Everything else - WoW Pet, Dogtag USB, Starcraft 1 etc - comes pretty much free in that regard.

/Buying it.

Those special editions look great, I would definitely pick up the Starcraft 2 and Halo Reach special edition if I had the money. I usually buy the regular edition when it comes to most games, the only special editions that I bought are the Batman Arkham Asylum special edition and the Asssassins Creed 2 special edition. I think I might have to buy those...

I generally don't buy these things unless I'm completely fanatic about the series or the extras are completely worth it. A friend of mine ran down to Gamestop as soon as school was over to pre-order Halo: Reach Legendary Edition.

Even if they lost money on it, a crazy collectors edition drums up the market. Gets people talking about "the crazy set of crap their friend got" with their collectors edition. Well I'm not a marketer but I assume that is part of the reason they do it.

Though the special edition of Halo:Reach looks great, I can't justify spending $150 on a game. Might get the limited edition though.

I'd pay for the SC2 one as it's worth the money.

I got WoW:WOTLK special ed, because it was worth it and not much more than standard. I'd never get more than the normal, unless I thought the special edition was worth it.

So using your examples,
Do I think Halo Reach Legendary is worth it? No. I don't like halo that much, and as special as they want to try make those guys be, theyre new characters, not the face of the franchise.

Alan Wake. Umm.. Who? What's this game? Who made it? I havent seen the price, but im guessing three figures. (And I do know what alan wake is and who made it, but its got no history to show that it's going to be a worthy investment).

The thing I find funniest though, is places make a big deal about LIMITED stock.
Then six months later theyre still trying to ship them. My local gamespot has plenty of Mw2 copies with the night vision left.

I completely agree with you here. I got the limited edition of Bioshock because it was the only copy they had(and gave it to me for $60) and Assassin's Creed I(because it was awesome).
Also, great avatar. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one without his head up his ass.

You, sir, deserve a thumbs up. (Thanks for the avatar compliment, likewise).

Now, if TS 4 came out and there was a special edition I would pool all my resources and even raise an army of the dead if necessary.

Or if Fallout: New Vegas came with a Deathclaw plushie.

Did you see the Grenade machine gun? It fires grenades in full-auto! That's one badass gun, but they have more. Imagine the Hammer of Dawn from Gears of War.

Maybe that'll be one of the weapon combinations for Dead Rising 2... *muses*

I think it is a matter of if you think it is worth the extra money for a special edition, same applies to Movies. If you like having behind-the-scenes info, art books, trinkets of various sorts, or you are just a big fan of a series, then it may be worth it to you.

On the other hand if you just want to play the game and move on, then it may not be worth it. The thing that bothers me are the folks you judge you for what you bought or for that matter didn't buy.

I like the way you think. I can't wait to make the knife boxing gloves. Did you hear that Dead Rising 2 going to be co-op? By the way, Fistbump of friendship?

Maybe that'll be one of the weapon combinations for Dead Rising 2... *muses*[/quoteI

Generally, if I think the extra swag is worth it and I want the game, I might upgrade. That said, the only game I've upgraded is Sam & Max Season 2, when Telltale was running a bundle of that and Surfin' The Highway for a little more than the game alone (about $7 extra, including delivery). The comic was so increadably worth it, it was unbelievable.

I am interested in the Starcraft 2 Collector's Bundle, depending on the UK price, but the Extra Bang per Buck ratio will probably be quite a bit lower than Surfin' The Highway.

Dead Rising 2 is coop?

FUCK YEAH!

Relax, we're all going to Hell. But both players will play as Chuck Greene. You'd think would be weird, but with the customization you'll shortly have two very different looking characters.
