Typical. So instead of admitting he got it wrong, he blames everyone else for not getting it right. <.<

Really hope after he slept on it, he'd realize how absurd his statement is.

im incline to think he Misunderstood what "action adventure role-playing" means.

Epic Mickey is as much an Action Adventure Role-player as Assassins Creed is a Platformer.

lamest excuse i ever heard for why a game sucks.
Once again the Escapist community puts together the perfect first comment. (Not sarcasm.)

This is true. You put in so much development making sure the camera worked correctly, so we're supposed to forgive you when a game isn't as amazing as you made it out to be? Because you were perfecting the camera and not, say, the gameplay or story?

It's like saying you have the perfect editing staff that can put together a movie better than anyone else, and that 'perfect editing staff' is editing "Garfield: The Movie."

Granted, I haven't played Epic Mickey yet, but if it truly isn't very good because the developers were worried about making the 'perfect camera angle' rather than the 'perfect adventure game' then they get a slap on the wrist from me.

I ree-hee-heealy don't want to turn this into an argument over, or even conversation about, review scores. But since you're not the first person to bring it up...
No problem, I'm not trying to argue or anything either, I think most of your points are true, for the hype, it's definitely a fail and metacritic does have it's critics so to speak so peeps can take what they will from it :D

However I just felt overall the comments here (not specifically yours or just your piece) made it look a lot worst than it actually is, fail yes, but epic fail I'm not sure and it's not just specialist / unknown sites that gave the game decent ratings as you stated (IGN and the guardian are well known review sites).

So it definitely didn't match the hype, the camera probably really sucks too etc, however I'll wait until I've played it (unlikely) and / or see the sales figures to declare it an epic fail, though to be honest (and to agree to agree somewhat) I didn't really expect much from this in the first place considering he's going from Deus Ex to Mickey Mouse, a hard sell I feel :S

This is Brütal Legend all over again.

Famous Designer -> Hyped Game -> Great concepts but disappointing execution -> Designer says the public is playing it wrong.
Except in that instance Schafer was right. Look at the reviews. A large number of them praised the stage battles. Now look at the players - most of them complained about them, except for a few who praised them like the reviewers. What does this suggest? That most reviewers are better gamers than the average player, so they were more able to figure the game out. Lots of players, however, basically suck at games, so when they were incabable of understanding a game with gameplay more complex than a basic-level FPS or platformer, they blamed the game.

Brutal Legend didn't have a 'disappointing execution', I'm sorry, but you were just bad at it.

Thanks for that delightfully amusing piece of fanboy rage. My Sunday was feeling kinda dull.

Just finished the game and I gotta say: The gameplay is lackluster, but it has an undeniable amount of nostalgia to it. Not like in a game about an old game, but like a childhood thing. As a game, its medicore. But as a work of art? Amazing..... so this is the "disney magic" they were talking about....

I thought that it looked terrible but every review I've seen has been very positive. I wonder what critics he means?
