After some discussion with mates about the 80's I wanted to hear peoples memories of the spectrum +. What were your fondest memories, favourite games, joysticks etc. Did you envy/hate your friends with there commodore 64's? Did anyone make their own games.

I'll kick things of by saying that my first computer was a Spectrum zx + when I was about 6
It came with a bundle of old games Paperboy, smash tv, dizzy and a rather awesome robin hood game. It's weird thinking back to a dart sim I had, and how cool it was hearing a computer voice shout said "180" when you hit a maximum regardless of how pap it actually sounded.

For me a 'sceccy' taught me about gameplay and how it's (at least for me) the single most important part of any game. It's a shame that so few people of this gen of gamers have played one aa they'll never know how good they have got it (queue monty python scetch here) I mean how hard was it to get a game to load? and god forbid trying to get a second tape to continue a game! But that aside the spectrum had so much charm and still worth playing if you can get your hands on one.

So what are you're thoughts....

happy memories!the speccy was the first console (i suppose you can call it that) my family owned although i was barely old enough to use a keyboard i happily chugged on that thing till it burnt out, literraly burnt out.

i remember school daze the most fondest and i spent hours upon hours on that game, it was for me the game that sparked things off and is probably the reason im still gaming today. of course looking back the games are terrible and damn near un playable but thats just progress.

Man, I used to have an Atari 65 XE. I LOVED that thing. I'd spend hours on end with the good ol' tape cassette reader, booting up pixelated adventures like Pitfall or Ghostbusters. Those were the days.

Anyone ever remember Horrace goes Skiing? Crossing that damn road to buy the skis was a lot harder than the actual ski part.

they need to make a movie about Horace goes skiing, it'd be epic.

those damn cassettes, i remember how awkward they were to load and the noise they made was so irratating!

i had a go at making my own game once but it ended in a terrible asteroid clone that looked like a 5 year old made it.... probably because a 5 year old did make it

I live in Portugal, we didn't get the commodores... If we did, they weren't that big a thing here... At least not that I know of.

Fondest memories of my ZX? Oh man... I remember loading up a game ( load "" ) and leaving to have dinner because of how damn long it took to load.

I remember how games back then felt... Different... I have no better way to explain it, they just felt different... Sometimes more welcoming than the ones today.

I know what you mean, there was a certain charm the games had and an adictivness like smack to a crack whore. The way simple games built up like in chucky egg to an impossible level of sprites on screen. You knew there would come the point of the impossible biut going that little bit further felt more of an achievment than some cgi cut scene.

Something that occured to me last night, but I couldn't find the screen for it until now. Anyone remember "Operation Wolf"?

Was this the worlds first FPS game?

God I remember the old Spectrum days. Absolute gold. I remember the old ones like Treasure Island and it came with a game called O Mummy which was awesome as well. Simple as a four piece jigsaw puzzle, but still awesome.
