Whatever it is, it will no doubt involve sex and the death of a major NPC. Let the guessing games begin!
I can assure you (despite the protests of furries) that the former of these does not happen in Sonic Chronicles, which is, remarkably, a BioWare game.
I'm not sure about the latter, I haven't got very far through it...

I begin to wonder if BioWare are biting off more than they can chew. While they've yet to make a bad game, I think they'd be better off working on just one or two games to make them as good as possible.

Also, how sad is it that I know the screenshot is one of Brynnlaw from Baldur's Gate II?

Baldurs gate 3
No.

Just no. Firstly, they said it was a new IP. Secondly, Throne of Bhaal was, to all intents and purposes, Baldur's Gate III. There is a reason it had "The Final Chapter" on the front cover of the box. The story is over. We do not need a BGIII; we do not want a BGIII. It was an all-time classic game, and it should be left that way, rather than trying to update it for no good reason other than to make money. As Malygris said:

Baldur's Gate 2 ended so perfectly and so definitively. Would I really want to mess with that?
No. You would not. Leave well enough alone.

Well going by the UK Pcgamer BG3 is already in the works and yes I would love a new BG game says nothing about retconing a story to make a sequel, Faerun is a big place no reason to tread old ground

Whoever is making it should die, as long as it's not BioWare. If BioWare chose to continue the franchise, I'd be happy with it because they know what they're doing with it. It's their franchise and their story; they would know how to continue it.

I don't see why you would need to retcon the story; I'm not really sure what your point is. And while I agree that trying to continue the established BG story would be incredibly stupid, the problem with making an entirely new story is that it wouldn't be Baldur's Gate. If they're going to make a new story, they should make it an original IP. IF BGIII comes out, the only reason would be that Atari are too scared to launch a new IP, and want to unnecessarily continue the BG franchise so that they can get guaranteed sales.

To continue the story you would need to change it like you originally suggested hell if ubisoft can make a completly new game and call it Farcry 2 why not Bioware besides wopuld you say that Baldurs gate Dark alliance wasn't a Baldurs gate game?

I'm hoping that, whatever it is, it's set in an underused RPG setting. They've already got futuristic space sci-fi, medieval swords and sorcery, fantastical oriental kingdoms checked off, so I anticipate what "new IP" implicates.

I bet we'll be shooting werewolves with silver bullets and burning terrorists with fireballs.

I don't know whether a sequel would count as a new IP, but another, improved and current-gen Jade Empire game wouldn't go amiss...
motion is seconded, all in favor of new current-gen Jade Empire title say Aye

Because, let's be honest here, Far Cry was never about the story. The same goes for Quake; the sequels have almost nothing to do with each other (apart from II and 4), but they're not story-driven, so it's not an issue. Baldur's Gate, on the other hand, is all about the story, and I think if they're going to start a new story they should have the guts to make it a new IP. That way, if the game is good, it will become a popular game in its own right and not just part of the BG franchise; and if the game is bad, BG's reputation is not tarnished.

And no, I would not say Dark Alliance is a BG game. It was not developed by BioWare but by Snowblind, and was a classic case of a new game being attached to an established franchise in order to guarantee sales. I know part of the game takes place in the city of Baldur's Gate, but it's still not a BG game. The BG series are the games developed by BioWare.
