I usually try and get as far as I can in Max Payne 2 with a single beretta. I could finish the game with it but ammo stops dropping. Other than that, I once decided to play through Halo 1 only using the human weapons. On Legendary. Tough but possible - the elites are the only real challenge, as unless you're pouring constant firepower on them their shield won't drop. Once it got to the flood the game was easy.

I really hate games where you can distribute stat points at will, 'cause I always wind up feeling compelled to put the points exclusively in one stat, at the expense of anything, even fulfilling equipment and weapon requirements. I have one playthrough of Calligo Chaser where my luck is almost 200, and my second-highest stat is int. at 28. So I could equip magic items that would give me more luck.
God help me with MMOs that do this.

I also do a lot of runs without any armor in certain slots if they're unremovable and I like the default. I beat the game and new game plus of Zenonia without ever putting a hat on, 'cause I love Ekne's adorable curls! (Though honestly, that doesn't mean much in the game except for that one boss... But I was put at a disatvantage in PVP for it.)

look at them they are ADORABLE

Perfect completion of the oddworld games. No deaths. Ever.

God damn satisfying.

Also played through SH 2-3 without ever using a gun.

Thief: The Dark Project.

Ghost runs.

I've played through several of the early levels of that game without anyone seeing me or hearing a single footstep (I've used a couple of arrows as distractions though), and without killing or sapping anyone. Had to knock out a few guards or make some enemies "disappear" later in the game, but never got spotted for most of it.

Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed 2.

Most recently with AC2, a couple of friends enjoy watching me play occasionally, so I get them to tell me who to kill and how.

"Those 4 guards, hidden blades only"
"Easy" Walk up, double blade the pair on one side, then finish the other 2 while they're still drawing their weapons.

"Fine. The brute in that patrol, then get away without any more deaths. And no poison."

If I get hit by a guard at any point, I consider myself dead and we change game or pass the controller on, depending which friend it is.

Way of the Samurai 3.

I've recently done a run bare-handed only. It's rather interesting. Impractical even on Easy until you've unlocked a few of the higher-level bare-hand moves, but it's a nice challenge. I'm still trying to work out which part of your hand is the "blunt" edge though. That game is weird sometimes...

Red Faction: Guerrilla. Stealth. I did the "snipers on the roof" mission using only the Rail Driver. Didn't take a single hit from an enemy. I quite enjoy being sneaky in that game. At least until I set off the explosives that kill almost every EDF soldier in the area.

Wow for the Oddworld games. They were insanely easy to make a mistake in.

Butbutbut, how the heck does that work? First of all, how do you not die in Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus? Secondly, what do you do if you -do- die? Start the whole game over? Thirdly... whuh?

I usually go for 100% completion in my games. One of my self-imposed challenges is playing Grand Theft Auto 4 without breaking the law. I never last that long.

Isn't that like playing God of War without killing anyone?

Good luck....

I know. Playing it like a law-abiding citizen is hard as hell. The urges...they're too powerful.

Super Metroid was pretty fun with an hour limit. Reached the end in 57 minutes. :D

I am also a completionist at games, so I try to get every single item and piece of ammo. System Shock on impossible teaches many things.

I never speedrun, I prefer to explore the game.
I do however love self imposed challenges.
My thoughts exactly. I put all kinds of personal challenges on myself when gaming, like no-death runs (knock on wood, but I've got one going in New Vegas right now on Hardcore mode, which I'm clinging to one fight at a time), like visual-only landings in Flight Simulator (far harder than it looks, and it doesn't look easy!), and like "don't use the superpowered attack/item" in games that have such things.

Silent Hill: Speedrun 58 minutes
Silent Hill: Finished without saving/dying
Silent Hill 2: Speedrun 1 hour 27 minutes

I used to be in a silent hill forum and the guy that held (or holds) the SH speedrun record (Duke-something, about 27 minutes) was a member there. He once said "I'm retiring from speedruning, is too much time consuming."

I've tried speedruns in FO3, KOTORs 1&2, and RE4. The one in Fallout 3 was especially fun, since I really needed to eat radioactive food and such to regain health since I didn't have a bajillion stimpacks to use.

I don't get speed runs. If you've finished the game that much that you know where everything is and the only challenge left is do go as fast as possible, isn't it time for a new game? I cannot see in any way how it can be fun.

But of course this post = opinion, and I do respect the kind of obsessive skill it takes to speed run successfully, even if I don't agree with it.

Aaaaanyway, topic on hand. Given the chance, I try to do "one-character" runs. It sure made FF1 a hell of a lot easier and faster.
People like challenges, they also want reasons to replay their favorite games.

Speedrunning Megaman 2 through 6 without any save states.

I couldn't beat the original without them, though, and I admit it. That game is a nightmare.

Wowza!

As for myself I played Tomb Raider 1 till the final level without using medpacks and using only the pistols, I did the same for Tomb Raider 2, except I used 1 small medpack. Never finished them though, the final level of Tomb Raider 1 freaked me out too much as a child and now those save games are forever gone.
