Thankyou. I am from the UK. Why is there an apostrophe in 'get's'? That isn't time saving, that's just silly.iTz Br3nd3n said:Why does everyone that says 1 word incorrect get's there post replyed with u suck at spelling? are all people on the escapist from UK!
Because this is a forum where people are expected to spell correctly so that we can maintain the illusion of intelligence, but yes correct grammar and spelling really does help reading posts clearly and is a big plus over forums wr ppl spl lk ths. Also what do you mean by saying most of the people here are from the UK, are you saying they are more likely to care about grammatical correctness, or that they are generally more clear and coherent then Americans and other nationalities. Either way it seems like your trying to insult someone I'm just not sure who.iTz Br3nd3n said:Why does everyone that says 1 word incorrect get's there post replyed with u suck at spelling? are all people on the escapist from UK!
If I were you, I'd stop now.iTz Br3nd3n said:Not really im saying british ppl are more propper than us Americanssounds to me that , that is a compliment
Except when you don't use periods in your sentences, all your sentences run together. You don't speak non-stop for five minutes without a pause, so why type like you do? People like to know where to pause when reading, so they don't get headaches from reading one giant run sentence that never seems to end did I get my point across do you understand how annoying this is*?iTz Br3nd3n said:No i just dont spend the time to go through and make my .'s and ,'s and what not i no that u can read what im saying if i miss a damn .
So you're basically falling in the category of stereotypical "stupid" American. Kid, speak for yourself. I'm happily from America and I can be a grammar Nazi. Some people pride in the way that they present themselves online and offline. I type the way I speak in person. Sometimes I slip into the generic "internet speak" for the hell of it, because it comes across as common "slang" to a lot of people online.iTz Br3nd3n said:Not really im saying british ppl are more propper than us Americanssounds to me that , that is a compliment
Not really to do with where you're from. It is possible to be from England and stupid. Trust me, I see it all the time.iTz Br3nd3n said:Not really im saying british ppl are more propper than us Americanssounds to me that , that is a compliment
That type of spelling and grammar undermines your ability to appear intelligent and provide reasonably fairly-judged responses, it needs to have an adequate level of formal style and proper grammar and spelling.NewClassic said:I'm going to disagree with the article. Not the findings, which I believe entirely accurate, but the undercurrent of "Everything is under control." Texting does indeed promote communication, and as a textual medium, also promotes a form of literacy.
The problem lies in where this form of literacy is applicable. While the texting proves that the children were quite linguistically capable of analysis, but were doing so in a format that was unusual for the material. Supplant that into a formal setting and a strong resume with good information and positive references will instantly become a weak resume due to the informal language.
Formality and grammar supplant the (albeit misleading) connotation of intelligence, and practiced art that will be entirely missing if not practiced. Without backing in MLA, an essay would be graded equally if they were weak in content or weak in grammar. A journalist would not be published if s/he is not strong in AP-style.
Without formal grammar, those who cannot deviate from the texting language will be deemed unintelligent. That is where the problem in texting lies, not in literacy. Sadly, presentation has as strong an importance as intelligence in modern society.
