So I just got back from a bus trip to see this show, and it's SO much better than the media has made it out to be. I went into it thinking that it would be pretty, and that the music would be alright but not spectacular, and knowing little of the storyline other than there were going to be one or two new characters. Nothing else. I was blown away.
So yes it's the typical Spider-man plot with a few twists that I won't spoil but the new characters are pretty kickin'. The music was good minus a few mixing foul ups here and there. All that means was that there were times the music was too loud for the singers to be heard clearly, but it didn't happen all the time and it's an easily fixable mistake.
Visually, it earns every praise it's gotten and then some. Though some of the props are as simplpe as blow ups, some of them would make this play nerve-wracking for anyone but broadway to put on. The sheer amount of tech that goes on behind and even in back of the scenes is unfathomable.
I most definately suggest going to this show. Do it, seriously. It's worth it.
Oh, and just a small warning. Go for the balcony seats, you may miss a small percent of the action but it's better than missing the high-flyers because they flew behind you. <3
