Basically Sony is realising that ASM2 kind of sucked and there kicking around ideas to try and save the franchise and one of those is bringing iit into the MCU continuity. Although I would like to see it happen the only way I could see it working creatively is another reboot. ASM 2 causes a lot of plotholes, given that those kind of incidents would probably of drawn one of the Avengers out of the tower.

Doesn't the MCU do this all the time? Where is everybody else during the events of Thor 2, Captain 2, etc?

It's hard to sell that creatively when the entire thing is literally a few blocks from Avengers Tower in Thor 2 and Cap 2 it was communication jamming and fascists that mostly prevented the get together. When the entire thing literally happened in the same city as the alien invasion its hard to explain why nobody mentions it and why the ASm 2 villains weren't immediately hulk smashed.

Disney has a lot of money, they really should just buy it from Sony.

I mean these contracts that enable Sony and Fox to have INDEFINITE ownership of Spider-Man and the X-Men can't really be indefinite ownership. I mean what the hell lawyer wrote that up? How did Marvel agree to that?
Marvel signed these deals when near bankruptcy in 2000 and were desperate for cash.

Yeah but as desperate as you are for cash there's a difference between getting your lawyer to write up a contract saying "Ok 10-15 years control" and "INDEFINITE CONTROL".

I mean even normal retail job contracts have more get out clauses than that.
The clause is that they have to make a movie with the characters once every 5 years. It's beneficial to Marvel since they get a cut of it, but it was a much better deal back when they where bankrupt then it is now with them being a company that now has a money printer in the form of the MCU.

Honestly I don't see either actually going into some deal. Sony couldn't possibly gain more out of the agreement then they get from going alone, and Disney couldn't possibly make up the part of the profits that would go to Sony to make the venture worth while.

As sad as it is, Sony, Disney and Fox won't work together because despite what fans may say and want, the money just isn't there.

Even "At least once every 5 years" should've had an end date where the contract had to be renewed. I mean there's a difference between "At least once every 5 years FOREVER" and "At lease once every 5 years, for a maximum of 15 years before the contact has to be renewed".

Marvel must have hired the worlds worst lawyer to write that "FOREVER" contract.
With how desperate they where at the time for money, and no signs that they would bounce back, it actually made sense. The contract basically guarantees them steady (partial) blockbuster income at least once every 5 years from each of the studios at a time where just one movie could mean the difference between the company going under and staying afloat. Remember: these guys didn't have any idea the studio they set up in 2006 after years of collecting capital could become what it is. The deals are only ones which have been made bad from hindsight and the unprecedented success of Marvel Studios.

Maybe there IS an end date to the movie rights Sony and Fox bought. Who knows, none of this stuff is exactly out in the open.

Disney would be the roadblock. I don't know how well they'd receive this unless they were given absolute creative control over the movie. Basically, the way I see it, Disney would rather the Sony universe tank itself than share profits or allow another outside studio to bring down the MCU with a less-than-stellar movie. More than likely Disney would play the long game, letting Sony trash their finances trying to bring a train wreck under control then simply offer them an out by way of "we'll buy back the rights and you go on your merry way."

I would hate to see the current Spider-Man series in MCU anyway, its just shit and I don't understand why one less-than-great movie meant they had to reboot the whole damn show. It was stupid.

Don't MCU have everything planned out for at least most of the next decade? That would mean shaking up a lot of plans and deals to squeeze Spidey in, and they've shown they can turn a massive profit on a "risky" prospect like Guardians of the Galaxy ($600m+ worldwide and yet to open in China on a $170m stake) why would they need to turn to a Spiderman movie?
