Well, here's the thing. Normally I'm downright giddy when a new Spider-Man game comes out. I contemplated stealing my brother's Xbox when Spider-Man 2 came out. I spent weeks in red hot anticipation for Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3. I tore apart the town looking for a copy of Web of Shadows on its supposed release date. (All the websites said it came out on a certain day, turned out that was the 'shipping date' and that it would be another day before you could buy it. Seriously, why the hell even list that as the release date?)
But Shattered Dimensions? I didn't even know it was about to come out until today. The reason I normally get so excited about Spider-Man games is because of the free-roam. I could play the other games for hours without getting bored (Including Spider-Man 3). I love swinging around the city, putting down thugs, and doing an occasional trick race. I didn't have near as much reason to get excited for Shattered Dimensions because they said from the start that it would have none of these things. This looks more like a sequel to the PS1 Spider-Man games, and I think that's essentially what it really is supposed to be. They brought back Stan Lee and unlockable outfits, after all.
I'm not saying the game looks bad, it doesn't. It just isn't the type of Spidey game I tend to get worked up about. I'll rent this once Gamefly is able to ship me a copy, (Which probably won't be for a couple months) and I may very well end up buying it.
On the other hand, the DS version looks fantastic. I LOVED the DS version of Web of Shadows, I'd even say it's an underlooked gem. Sounds to me like the DS version of Shattered Dimensions is more of that =D
