Aaaaaaaaand no Robopocalyps. Yes, the name is dumb... but I'd really like just one more Spielberg Sci-Fi.

Spielberg fantasy is a close second I suppose... at least it's not another period war drama.

this is the most optimistic thread i've seen on the escapist in a long time. must be something roald dahl brings out in us.

OT: this could be good. loved the animated one when i was a kid.

I'm tentatively excited, but I do question how "delicately" he plans on handling the other giants, who were somewhat detailed in their taste for people. Possibly something like in Super8 where it was alluded to but not shown outright?
Either way, definitely going to see it when it's out. "The BFG" is second only to "Matilda" for me, in terms of Dahl books.
...nothing trumps the psychotic genius of a telekinetic gradeschooler terrifying the living shit out of someone like the Trunchbull.

A film version exactly like the cartoon version would be perfect. Although, knowing hollywood, i bet its relocated to america (i hope not, the book is a classic.)

Damn, Spielberg is definitely the one to direct this kind of stuff. I remember liking the book a lot. Hope this'll be good.

The original BFG. I loved this story as a kid. If Spielberg brings his A-game this movie will be a giant nostalgia trip for me.

Fuck yeah!!

I've been waiting for this since I was a kid. I wonder how they are going to handle that fizzy drink that makes the giant fart.

Well, I hope it has a period setting rather than the modern-day one that tends to happen when adapting books to movies. I thought Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would have been better had it been set around the middle of the 20th century, rather than the beginning of the 21st. Dahl's work tends to feel like it would fit better in a pre-Internet setting.

Come to think of it, Why hasn't anyone done a movie or miniseries adaptation of HG Wells' The War Of The Worlds with a late 19th century setting? After all, that's when the book's set, and it really works there.

I never heard this before, but Spielberg rarely does something that's not amazing. I miss his sci-fi movies though... He should direct Star Wars - Episode VIII!
