Why is this so laughable? It's not like any of the other big awards ceremonies in other medium are any better.

The awards seem a little trite but blow it up a little and have it running for a few more years and it'll probably garner as much respect as the other award shows.

Captcha: dollar bill

Seems appropriate.

That's not how games reviewing works. You find people who's tastes and opinions line up with yours and listen to them. Calling them "extremist" is ridiculous.
I thought you were supposed to listen to a diverse spectrum of opinions, not just the people who agree with you, but what do I know.

And yes, I'd say people who consider Assassin's Creed 3 to be "terrible" are on the extremist side, because they are exaggerating.

Regardless, listening only to those people you already agree with and then declaring that the critical response was terrible is a silly thing to do.

(For the record, I don't care about the series.)

If you're using a review as a buyer's guide (which is generally their purpose) the best advice you can get is the people who like the same things as you.

Someone calling Assassin's Creed 3 terrible isn't "extremist" it's someone saying they didn't like the game at all.

Stop being ridiculous.

I am being ridiculous, I forgot to add my point to my last post. I edited it, but here it is again:

It was a reasonable number of people who said this, so I just assumed it was fairly representative.

I guess what they say about assuming things is true, huh? (heh)

Assassin's Creed 3 JUST came out!! What about games which came out in January through May? Oh wait, I guess that would be Mass Effect 3...by the way, Role Playing Games. That category is likely going to be ME3 if its present at all. I'm surprised Black Ops 2 isn't in the running for GotY honestly...oh Spike

I can't wait for the VGAs: It's always fun to ignore them by either working or, playing video games.

I think it's too early to add a game like AC3. They're just tossing that one there because it's AC. Same with Blops2. But whatever, I'll play along. My picks are:

Game of the Year

Journey (Sony Computer Entertainment/thatgamecompany)

Best Action Adventure Game

Dishonored (Bethesda Softworks/Arkane Studios)

Best Shooter

Borderlands 2 (2K Games/Gearbox Software)

Studio of the Year

(I can only recognize two of those studios so no pick from me)

Most Anticipated Game (viewer voted)

BioShock Infinite (2K Games/Irrational Games)
and
The Last of Us (Sony Computer Entertainment/Naughty Dog)

You know, it's sad this is kind of the most well-know and only videogame nomination event we have. I know there's others but I never realize when they happen or where they are transmitted.

God, I hate that channel with their macho, retarded programs. And you know its being transmitted there because games for guyssss! Chicks don't play games, screw that! Guyz all the way! UFC, RED BULL AND AXE! YEAAAAAH!

Jesus Christ.

It amazes me that Claptrap, Master Chief and the latest generic Asscreed guy are up for Character of the Year, but actual characters - Max Payne (or even Raul Passos, and yes, I know, my fanboy is showing), Geralt or Adam Jensen - are nowhere to be seen. I know there's only so much room, but Claptrap? Come on.

In my opinion the only game that shouldn´t be in the "game of the Year" is AC3, because lets face it (it was crappy), ME3 (yes BIg 3xA game, shoter with RPG elements, EA is evil, yada-yada) even with-out the retake ME3 movement, it was a relly significant game and it wasn't a bad game eather, besides if you add all the fuss around the ending it gets really temting to call it "game of the year" ( not so much for being the best game of the year but well). And on that logic, even so i did't play it because i dont have an X-box Halo 4 should be in that category to

(hugh, ican't belive i writte that. even so i did watch all full walktrow, because im a big RvB fan and i have to say it may be one of the best Halo's stories)

Dishonored deserves the spot can't say much, but the Walking Dead? "Sing hallelujah and rape eachother in thanks" my personal Favorite for BGY, and its not even done yet with ep 5 in, well 5 days it too much good. even/specially if they kill Lee (PLS DON´T LET THAT HAPPEN) its such a great game

It really doesn't need saying just how ridiculous the entire concept of a 'most anticipated game' award is does it?

... does it?

Other than that, I may dare to feel cautiously optimistic about this one. Blops 2 being up for an award after only being out for two days is ridiculous (and it will win anyway because Call of Duty), but that was to be expected. I'm disappointed that Spec Ops: The Line isn't nominated for anything. I wouldn't expect it to win anything from Spike even if it was but it should at least have had a mention for fucks sake. However, I am seriously excited to see Dishonored up for 2 awards, and Arkane up for best studio. If even one of these nominations go their way, I will walk away a happ-well, a slightly less pissed off man. Seeing South Park potentially win most anticipated would be good for a laugh as well.

Oh boy! More infantile jokes, teabagging, and impossibly un-funny bits slathered over a big marketing circle-jerk disguised as an awards show. I can hardly wait for the highlights this year. Perhaps they will just announce the winners while flinging dogshit at Shigeru Miyamoto.... because here in America our gamers love feces and grandfathers of the industry, amirite?

Now if you'll excuse me I've got a date with a coma. Wake me when it's over.

I was slightly surprised and disappointed that Halo 4 wasn't up for GotY. However, I suppose they already have a whole separate shooter category, and CoD isn't nominated for GotY either, so that's acceptable.

I agree the fact that Journey is nominated for GOTY (by people associated by Spite tv no less) is surprising, but it was also nominated 5 more times. Best original score, best song, best graphics, best downloadable, best indie. Very nice. I'm actually impressed that the manly-man channel crowd even gave notice *clapclapclap*

But really, why do we have WiiU titles even nominated? I thought the console hasn't been released yet, and we got New Super Mario Bros U and ZombiU as well. I know it was slim pickings for the Wii this year, but it still looks weird. Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story at least made sense (even though Xenoblade technically isn't a 2012 game, even in English speaking nations).

Well, technically Adam Jensen was last year (and he wasn't all that interesting for me anyway tbh, it was the world around him that was interesting).

Also to the next person I hear say the Master Chief isn't a character, especially after Halo 4, I promise their will be pistols at dawn! (yes, I know, fanboy. But you started it :p)

I'm glad to see Xenoblade Chronicles in the best RPG section, but no Persona 4: Golden?! At least Persona 4: Arena is in Best Fighting Game, but knowing Spike TV, Dead or Alive is going to win. You know why that is...

Also, I'm not complaining about Journey's inclusion in many of these categories. That game was pretty good. Better than Call of Duty, that's for sure, even though CoD is gonna beat it hands-down for Game of the Year.
