Not bad but there was just one thing missing... what was it? Oh yeah! SOME FUCKING AWARDS! There was only like 4 of them in the entire show.

Spike Awards, whatd you think?
I thought good, wish batman had been goty but everyone has different opinions and I feel skyrim had more internet users at its command for votes but whatever.

Thought Chuck was a better host than last years ensemble.

edit: jesus christ you guys are a hard to please cynical bunch. its just an awards show...
Then why the hell did you ask for people's opinions if you're just going to insult them about it?
I didnt know everybodys complaints were going to be over minor/stupid things
"They didnt pick my game"
"Cant believe that won, this show is bullshit"
"Previews sucked."
"Waaa..."

I expect more from escapist but then again this is just a forum.

didnt watch, its a joke.

who ever brings the awards more money wins. why do you think MW3 wins? activision markets the shit out of it. (sure isnt because the game can hold up on its own merits)

My awards for this year:
Best Puzzle: Portal 2
Best modern shooter: BF3
Best sandbox action: Batman Arkahm City
Best RPG: Skyrim
Best remake: Halo CE anniversary
Best Indie title: Didn't play one, short on cash.
Best Game (remakes not allowed obviously): Portal 2

End of ceremony, go home and play games now.
^This.
only I would have gone for Deus Ex: Human Revolution as overall GOTY, Portal 2 was awesome don't get me wrong, but I enjoyed DE:HR more, just my opinion.
Also, I wouldn't go with BF3 for best modern shooter just because of everything EA has done to piss me off, so as much as I dislike COD, and how I agree that BF3 is better in almost every way, I'm okay with MW3 getting it, 'cause I can not allow EA to succeed... at anything... EVER AGAIN!
Yes, I actually hate EA THAT MUCH, they are a stain on this industry, and I despise them with all my heart.
not to argue but you like Activision over EA?
Yeah, EA is douchey, but activision is straight up scum! At least EA (outside of the sports department) innovates and doesn't treat its customers like pure shit.

And personally DE:HR looked like a real bore with nothing to add.

I found it sad that Killzone 3, which arguably has better gunplay than either Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3, got snubbed.

Guerrilla Games just can't get a break can they?

Don't get me wrong, I HATE Activision too, but lets see what EA has done to shame this industry in the last few years alone...

Online Passes
Always on DRM
60 dollar roster updates disguised as sports games
The Dantes Inferno ad campaign
The Dead Space 2 ad campaign
killing Bullfrog entertainment
pulling all their games off Steam
Origin
outrageous Origin bans
Origin functioning as spyware
GOD DAMN ORIGIN!
poor customer service
supporting SOPA
Oh, and lets not forget about those aforementioned online passes EXPIRING!

Activision's only real crime is loving money a little too much, I hate them 2, but from where I sit, they are actually the LESSER of 2 evils.

Joking.
I respect your opinion even though I disagree and thought DE:HR was one of the best things I've played in YEARS

God it was terrible. Only reason I watched it was for the announcement trailers, which were some of the most disappointing I've seen in years.
You didnt like Fall of Cybertron......but Dinobots....
You know, as soon as that trailer came on I actually got called out of the room I was watching it on.

Wasn't a big fan of the last game, but I'll bite if there are dinobots.

What? I hear alot of "Waaaaah what I like isn't popular but subjectively good to me so I must hate what's popular" in this thread. It's just a show for Christ's sake, if you don't agree with it good for you.

I heard that Gears of War 3 didn't win anything it was nominated for, so therefore I didn't like it.
Yah didn't Spike also air the midnight release of the game?
Yeah, they did. That doesn't stop them from ditching it whenever another battlefield or call of duty shows up.

Well there was no "More of The Same" award.
Nope, Skyrim would have won that.

Gears 3 has so many improvements over the last two to the point where it's not even funny. The horde fortifications, all of beast mode, new weapons, weapon skins, new game modes like capture the leader, etc.

I have a question for you, have you actually played the game? I mean like, actually sitting down and playing it for an hour or two?

The VGAs are a joke. They spent more time on things that had nothing to do with games than on their actual awards or anyone having to do with the industry.

I remember a section in the show where they showed a video that let you know who won about 10 awards in like 27 seconds. Then you have some critic of the awards doing a staged kiss up routine that lasted over a minute. I imagine solely to discourage and mock other legitimate critics.

Its baffling to me that anyone watches it.

(admittedly I watched it, but only because some dtoid editors were discussing it live)

Remember, everyone, that from last night onward, the stereotype of frat boy gamers has been reinforced to anyone who watched the show.

fair enough, although origin hasnt bothered me any, and frankly, i like how it works, yes steam is better, but hey. cant please everybody. and everything else on that list doesnt really bother me.

Activision is probably worse though, repackaging a game that keeps breaking records while dumbing down the shooter genre (thank christ for valve and halo), haveing no ear or eye for its customers grievances, has treated their subsidiaries HORRIBLY, and wont make another Tony Hawk Underground games...the pricks.
Not to mention haveing one of the WORST fanbases that try and claim everything they have done in recent games is original (even though it was done by halo, battlefield, and any tom clancy game at least 3 years prior.)

but whatever.

Funny, it would've lost that one too. MW3 would have taken home that award.

BA DUM TISH!

OT: I found them entertaining. God you guys are picky. The only complaint I have is giving the mic to that hater dude... I didn't see anything good coming out of that bit.
Yeah, I don't know why they felt it was necessary to waste time on some random Youtube troll. Zachary Levi handled it well though.

So...are we meant to assume we'll have Batman: Arkham World sometime in the future? Did anyone get that besides me...? Because if so...I SAY NO! Arkham City was good but not as god as Arhkam Asylum. I can only imagine what yet ANOTHER sequel would look like, especially now that Mark Hamill said he wasn't going to voice The Joker anymore.

I'm not surprised about Skyrim getting GOTY award, though I still think Skyward Sword deserved it more. Sure, they're trying to be hipster by letting Portal take the Best Multiplayer award right over MW3 and BF3, but noooooooo!

Zachary Levi was actually a good host. But I'm not surprised; he IS alright. You know, as in not obnoxious or trying too hard to be funny by rambling random host banters. Thus, he's a gamer. And Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert.

It was funny to watch Hideo Kojima stutter as he tried to communicate with us silly Americans. It was awkward too...but he's Hideo Kojima! Who cares?!

Honestly, I only watched it because we don't have that many televised video game awards show. The only other one I can think of is GDC, and that's around July/August. And this one. *Sigh*

Someone needs to come up with really good, honest and fair video game awards show.
It was a joke, there will not be an "Arkham World", that would insinuate that the entire world would be under "Arkham's" rules.

Also, why are they "hipster" to allow a rather great game win a decent award? Portal 2's Co-Op is hilariously fun and quite better than your average "Go here, cap/kill, repeat" formula that most FPS use.

If you want a "fair" one, go to the Interactive Achievement Awards. It was on G4TV as an Hour Long special before. Hopefully it will be on again. They also have the entire thing broadcast online.

Now for my review:

It was a better event than last year. I do like the host, however a few people shouldn't have been on stage (Hulk Hogan and his "maniacs", That Jonas Brother, "WINNING" guy) who didn't seem to care at all. And the rewards are still stupid as all hell (Seriously, a "Most Anticipated Game" award? What the fuck is wrong with you people?).

Still, for a Spike show it was a pretty good event. Hopefully they will tone down the bullshit and make it like the IAA's.

P.S.: Was I the ONLY one who screamed like a giddy little school girl when I saw the Opening Cinematic for Diablo III?
Oh, I didn't know about those awards. I only knew about the VGAs and the GDC ones. I'll be sure to check that out.

For the multiplayer award, I do think it's weird for Portal to win that award. I'm not saying its multiplayer is not fun; quite the opposite. But if this was a gamer's choice, there's just NO WAY Portal would beat someone like CoD, simply because of the number of fans. Is Portal's multiplayer better than CoDs? Yeah. Does it offer more? Maybe. But just look at it this way: Most Gamestops didn't open at Midnight for Portal 2. My local Gamestop(s) opened at midnight for MW3. There were around 200 people per store. The next day, the store was packed with people eager to buy the game and, yes, play online. So because of all that, I don't think the votes mattered much here. I think it's more like a bunch of people sit in a room and make the decisions (Which is probably true). So then I wonder, why make us vote at all anyway?

But anyway, I don't mind that much because I don't take the VGAs that seriously. And no, I also squirmed around with the Diablo III intro cinematic.

Well all award shows are bad to watch but, it was worth it to see the new trailers that were premiered.

I gave up on them quite a while ago. But whenever I get really bothered with their choices, I just tell myself "The decisions are made by people who voted on the website, and most gamers with dignity would rather spend their time playing games rather than voting for them." Coincidentally I think the same thing at the MTV movie/music awards. I mean really? There was a year that Twilight walked off with half the rewards, clearly the whole poll was done by teenage girls.
Actually, if you read the fine print on the website the "votes" you place are actually just who YOU want to win. The actual voting for who wins is done by a committee or something to the effect. That's why MW3 wasn't in the running for GOTY in the first place.
