If they're going to put an arbitrary X in there might as well have gone all the way and named it the xXVGVXx awards.

So are we to take it that the new name is an exercise in initialisms that don't mean anything but just have a 'cool' letter in them to look all, like, cool and stuff bro? What was wrong with calling an award ceremony celebrating games of a videographicalised nature the 'Video Game Awards'? If they want it to look cool and egdy then I would recommend a rerebranding to the ~Xx.]{5p1k3\/G/\5}[.xX~'[email protected] and make full use of the full 1990s vibe.
If they could throw 5n1p3r in there somewhere, too, they could really capitalise on the CoD crowd.

It's unclear what Keighley is referring to when he mentions the show's "expanded digital footprint." He may be referring to the fact that the show will stream on a whole bunch of platforms and websites: According to the Spike website [http://www.spike.com/vgx/about], the show will be viewable online through Xbox Live, PSN, Twitch, VGXLIVE.com, Hulu, Yahoo Screen, Spike.com, ComedyCentral.com MTV.com, MTV2.com, BET.com and GameTrailers.com. Then again, he could be talking about anything.
I have a really bad feeling that all the "expanded digital footprint" statement means is that there's gonna be obstructive, annoying hashtags flashing up on screen. That seems to be a really unfortunate trend with all awards shows nowadays

If the host is not SLJ... Then, you're wasting your time streaming on sites that technically have their own station to stream this "award" show you have going on here...

Also, what's with the "X"? Is it the new "R" word in the title or the new SLJ? If its the latter, than I don't know what to say about this... I might watch it on it's intended format, but don't expect me to fangirl for anything that's going to happen during that show...

...unless it's SLJ...

So... does the X in VGX stand for anything at all? Or is it one of those dumbass changes stupid people do in order to make stuff sound "edgy" and "hip"?
Video Game Xwards. The letter A is for niche audiences anyways, totally not radical enough for todays hip and funky mainstream audience you feelin me broski?

I know i'm asking for too much but can we have celebrities who actually give a damn about video games do these for once? I have yet so see Vin Diesel at this event.
Eh, screw it, they'll find a way to ruin our credibility anyways. I still have horrible memories burned into my brain from 2011's attempt at humor.

Allow real gamers and well known gaming celebs to host a real show, not some big names who likely don't know anything about games as well as shareholders and suits who don't care.

I always took the VGA with a grain of salt and always will. Have somebody like Jim Sterling and/or Angry Joe be the host.

I'll be disappointed if Last of Us or Beyond: Two Souls doesn't win any awards on account of being Playstation Exclusives

I've long ago realised that 'award ceremonies' are nothing more than circle-jerks with a live audience.

That belief won't change.

You know how lame and predictable and pointless MTV movie and music awards have got. Well this is the video game award show thats just as bad. it'll be all about BF4, new CoD, GTA5 and coz everyone bums Blizzard SC2 and WoW.

Oh man, these spike Tv awards they are so bad an exercise in ugg. It's just a bunch of corporations awarding each other stuff in a PR orgy of epic proportions.
I don't really understand all the hate for the VGAs. I only watch them when I have nothing better to do but they never seem as bad as people make them out to be and if I'm not mistaken both Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim were revealed at the VGAs so they are at least good for that.
they used to be completely awful. i believe the first one awarded Madden game of the year over Splinter Cell, GTA: Vice City, Wind Waker, etc. and for the next few years they had some profoundly stupid and gimmicky awards, but in the last few years they have been a lot better.

its still a platform for advertising, but i think thats the best part of the show. everyone wants to see the announcement teasers/trailers.

people just still give the show a lot of crap for how bad it used to be.

great use of the true "Spike" on the front page. Don't watch the award show myself (being in good old Blighty) but if it's anythng like the gaming baftas (paid for by the corporations to congratulate the corporation) it's probably a load of shite, brightly coloured shite!

The VGAs are the industry's flashy but lame attempt at turning classic video gaming into some sort of fratboy fanboy party fanatic event. Complete with all sorts of nonsense zero-credibility awards and celebrities any person with an IQ will know immediately from the get-go is not really into gaming. The only consistency I find in them are the awards for the games I totally never see coming or mostly find undeserving. All the awards will go to BF4, COD, GTA V and the best voice over to Ellen Page.

Okay, so they have improved over the years... I can imagine 300 years from now the VGAs will have half the credibility of TB or Angryjoe.

It's gonna take more than a name change to undo all the ridiculous things they have done over last few years.

I cannot think of a reason I would watch the VGXs... well, maybe if James Marsters hosted them... as Spike

Yay now I get to watch more "game journalists" rave about how awesome corporations are and how much they love all the money that they make off advertisements for mountain dew and the new Madden game...

Hmmmm, no. No, the X doesn't do...enough. How about VGSolveforX? Or perhaps VGXMarksTheSpot? Maybe VGXY for cross-promotion with Pokemon? Let's go SUPER-90s with VGX-TREME (Beach Volleyball).

If by "brightly colored" you mean brown and grey with the occasional red splash..
