In an age where videogames may be censored for basically being violence simulators or a new medium of softcore porn, a company would really remake Splatterhouse with this much added gore?
I realize some games have really capitalized on the intense violence (God of War, Gears of War, etc.), but we need to really think about what kind of image this game is giving the non-gaming population.
Games are already being blamed for causing kids to act violently as much as unprotected boinking of a prostitute is blamed for causing rashes and the sex-sniffles.
Let's try and push the envelope a little bit here and go for more innovative/less mindlessly violent games; games like (but not remakes of) Portal or Mirror's Edge.
Let's push for better storytelling, with more plot than "...and then he tore the zombie's spinal cord out and proceeded to beat it back to death." Creative storytelling like Assassin's Creed, Brutal Legend, Mass Effect, and Fable should be at the forefront of our imagination. Not stuff like Jeffrey Dahmer's Day in the Market.

Seriously guys, this is getting embarassing, let's make a change PLEASE!

I don't see a huge problem in adding gore or "sexual images" to games. Some people like it and if you don't, don't buy it. As for the image we are sending non-gamers, same to them.

Eh, I liked the idea of remaking splatterhouse. People who don't find glee in seeing things go squish are denying themselves a great enjoyment.

But some of us don't always want something like that. Sometimes, we want something similar to Doom, which had a plot of "Demons have taken over Mars, kill the shit out of them".

So wait. God of War came out this year, and we all know how long these legal battles take. So you mean that God of War is just fine, but splatterhouse is pushing the envellope? We're fighting for the right to put whatever the hell we WAN'T in videogames!

If we plead freedom of speech but censor ourselves in order to appease out opponents, then they'll win, and Censorship wins, and freedom of speech loses. Our ability to put what we want will lose.

There is no reason to censor any game. Don't wannt play it? Don't play it.

spartan is right

also, we have jewels like Bioshock, System Shock, Half Life 2, Halo Combat Evolved, Call of Duty and Call of Duty: United Offensive and stuff

sometimes we need a game that reminds us where we came from

like Splatterhouse as you mentioned, or hell, even Duke Nukem Forever

granted, we are not really making ourselves look any better to them

but come on, The Expendables, or even Rambo 4 movies, they both took cinema back to the 80s when it was all blood and gore and shit, and nobody said a word

it's just that it's our turn in the spotlight, but it wont last forever

I don't know, I just see it as far over the top.
I'm not a fan of Gears, God, or Splatter
I'm even iffy when it comes to Black Ops (not buying it)
I don't blame people for wanting to buy these games, I'm just not thrilled about them at all.
Mindless gore is kinda just pointless to me. =/

I suppose they could change the name to something like TidyHouse or BeigeHouse, but i doubt it would reach the same audience....

Splatterhouse has always been a mindlessly gory grunge-fest with little to no brain in the way of plot. It's just what Splatterhouse is. Even when Splatterhouse 3 attempted to establish a solid narrative, it was still nothing more than a basic framework for Rick to go in and kill more shit.

It'd be like implementing a dismemberment system within Mirror's Edge; it simply ruins the appeal.

[sub][sub]And I'm not saying we should focus on advancing intelligent storytelling or character design, but there's a time and place for everything, and this isn't it.[/sub][/sub]

Splatterhouse series never were mainstream, they always were very niche tipe of game.
For horror movies fans. The absurd number of reference in all the games are more than prove of that.
Them you should be no worry about "videogame image" for most of people, because most of people will never even notice it.

I don`t give a damn what so called non-gamers think ,have you seen what kind of movies are released nowadays? Nothing ive played comes close to using persons guts as a rope in machette and thats just one example from the top of my head.

The game is called Splatterhouse for a reason, the entire franchise is just gore and obscene imagery

Yes, so a game called Splatterhouse should have deep emotionaly driven characters and be conservative with its violence, yup that makes sense.

Games are:
Violence simulators?
Porn?

Nice of you to make an account here, Mr Glenn Beck.

Yeah! Because I demand that everything be enjoyable for my, and my tastes! People that have fun differently can screw themselves, because only thousands of games come out a year, and even though I'll only play a few of them, each and every one that I wouldn't enjoy offends me on a deeply personal level.

Seriously, dude. More games is a good thing. I'd rather have a diverse medium than one the purely caters to me.

When you say it seems pointless, then why should it bother you? The only difference I've seen with Black Ops is that a shotgun at close range will dismember an enemy, or occasionally you'll be bombarded with flying pieces of flesh from a grenade explosion.

Oh a remake of splatterhouse this will be pleasing to play but realy, i dont give a flying fu*& what the game haters think of games or what they think of us the gamers.

As for splatterhouse its best games like this dont come out offten no matter how fun they are. The game industry dose kind of have a rep to protect
