I got Splinter Cell: Conviction for the PC off of the Ubisoft site (becuase it was on sale for new years) and have been heavily enjoying, it but for some reason, when I try to play the Co-op/Multiplayer, I get an error called: Critical Error: General Protection Fault.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Someone raised it as an issue on the Ubisoft forums in May, I'm pretty sure they said they were working on a fix for it.

I haven't seen one.

I've reinstalled it 3 times, doesn't help.

It might have something to do with one of the patches, but they also fix the dreadful singleplayer performance, and one of them "fixes" the matchmaking. It's really not worth the effort - the co op campaign is very good, but even after the fix the matchmaking didn't work properly and no one will be playing it any more.

If I did my research right back when the game was hot and new and people were having issues left and right (which they still do... but the game is no longer that hot), then this was and is a known hardware compatibility issue.

People fixed it by re-installing on different machines with different CPUs.

Though what else you might want to try is connecting a Mic, there were multiple reports of folks working around it with that.

hm, might try that, using a Mic did allow COD4 to work on my comp.

There are always people to be found on the STEAM group for it, even if you don't run it on STEAM: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/scccof

Not really, most games work perfectly, fine, it's just some games. Like 98% of all my games work fine.

Ah, I just noticed that you also had problem with Battlefield, so I was under the assumption that it was a snowballing problem with the steam sales.

Also, good luck finding anyone playing Conviction, I bought it a month after release and no one was playing it.

I was able to fix the BF2 problem, as for FEAR, I just got to bear it.

FEAR is a dozy, and its a problem, I found many have also (many also had and still do have the BF2 problem), basicaly after playing for 8-10 mintutes the game will lag so badily, you will need to save and reload the game to make it stop lagging.

Think of it as an Bullet-time 1.5 and that should fix the problem.
