Split/Second may be the coolest racing game I've ever played.

Maybe not best, but certainly coolest by a mile.

I was in my first race, and had blown up a football stadium to create a shortcut. Just as I overtake first place, I heard an ominous, bass-y noise similar to the one that preceded my stadium implosion.

Suddenly, a gigantic plane was falling from the sky and crash landed right on top of my car.

Once again, a gigantic plane fell from the sky and crash landed on top of my car.

THAT HAPPENED.

I don't even need to play anymore. It's already the coolest racing game I've ever played.

What game holds your favorite jaw-dropping moment of What-The-Donkey-Punching-Fuck?

God of War at the end of the first level when you fight the Skylle by impaling it's head on the broken mast of s ship. Every boss fight is just delicious.

Also this the first time in years I give a shit about a racing game... it sounds insane.

i looked at it and wasn't sure if the commercials and trailers were just hype, i might have to give split seconda rent/purchase, it looks pretty solid an ACTUALLY fun to race!

the last game that has gotten my jaw dropping experience is in uncharted 2 maybe? a few of the chase scenes were pretty freaking sweet. althought that was as of recent

I'd have to say... God of War, on multiple occasions. When you go into Poseidon to take the beating Kratos is giving gave me giggles in a way that made me think I need therapy, and when you rip off Chronos' fingernail I actually curled up and made an inhuman noise.

Does a trailer count? Because the Wrath of the Lich King trailer, when the dragon came out, made my jaw drop. Literally. I think that was the only time I've ever actually done it except as a joke.

Then there's the time in Left 4 Dead when I, a tank, punched Bill off a skyscraper and sent him flying to another building. At least, to the invisible wall. That dropped my jaw, but just because I was laughing my ass off.

Hurm. Looks like I'll have to give this one a rental after all. I'm really not into racing games, but I can't help being intrigued by the scenario you describe here.

Burnout is still the best racing game ever.
Split Second is cool, I played the demo, but after you blow the whole map up it turns into a generic racing game.
Burnout 2, if anyone remembers that 'ol classic, was my favorite...
As for "oh shit" moments, I remember racing towards the finish line on this map that I forgot the name to, and the roads were twisty and going downhill, so imagine my surprise when the guy in last place falls right next to my car, missing it by inches. I was about to breathe a sigh of relief, but it got caught in my throat when I noticed the eighteen wheeler that also fell down the cliff, taking out a ton of traffic cars along with me...
This doesn't happen all of the time, but when Burnout 2 decides to be cool, it exceeds...

there was a moment in MW2 that i just had to stop and go "huh?" ... i launched a javelin at a harrier but as it went up someone hit it with a stinger, so there was nothing for it to target..i watched in a kind of entranced state as the missile did a double loop-the-loop around where the plane was, then, appearantly pissed off at me for not launching it faster, it crashed back to the ground....right on top of me

I purchased Split/Second, and I must say that it is the most enjoyable racing game I've had since Mario Gokart. The feel is intense and truly makes you struggle for every split second! A split second could change everything. You are at the last place and soon to be eliminated as the timer goes down. Then by just the lucky press of a button a fourth of the course changes route in a dramatic, epic and explosive way, leading you to victory. What the game does is that it enables you to utilize your knowledge of the course in order to gain vital advantages over your enemies. The more behind you are, the more easier it is to rain hell upon you opponents. If you're at first place, expect a nerve-wrecking, ruthless chaos that will try to smash you into tiny bits.

...What was the topic again? Oh, right! Well... My most jaw-dropping moment in a game? That's probably from Battlefield 2142. I once defended a base single-handedly against an offensive consisting of about fifteen people with a well-aimed defense-turret. A stationary veichle that's so overpowered and yet nearly no one seem to realize its tide-turning potential in the hands of a skilled aimer.

I agree. Split/Second had a fucking tower fall and crush a road while a plane tried to ram me.

It's an awesome game. I was thinking 'Holy shit I need this game!'

Also in Dawn Of War Soul Storm; Space Marine Campaign where 3 or 4 Squigoths tried to attacked my Commander while I did an Orbital Bombardment
