I am presently incapacitated by what appears to be a sprained ankle, and while sitting on my ass for hours on end doing nothing can be fun at first, it does get old after a while. So, fellow escapists, have you ever hurt yourselves while exercising, and if so, how did you cope with it?

PS: any hints as to how to speed up recovery, or how long it lasts would be most appreciated

Did my ankle in playing cricket once, was running to stay in and slid, as I did though my foot bent round and my toes were nearly touching my shin bone. Was layed up for near 2 weeks with some serious swelling, though luckily nothing was broken.

Badminton is not a violent sport but damn, I've seen some nasty stuff. One of my mates ripped the ligaments in his ankle yet he had to drive himself to the hospital. You have to be hard stuff to play badminton. Luckily I have never had anything serious. I have a little bit of Osgoodslatus in my legs at the moment though.

As for speeding up the recovery, don't try to play the sport again until you know it is completely healed up. Playing sports is the fastest way to send you back to the hospital. Other than that I have nothing.

Last monday I fell over on a treadmill and almost sprained it, at half term one of my friends fell over when we were snowboarding and broke his wrist, my brother played rugby, and manages to not break any bones, but had a fair few knocks, cuts, sprains, twists, etc.
Overall though, I've managed to stay clear of major injuries, which I'm quite proud of.

Also, advice on healing: RICE.
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

Several times playing/practicing for soccer. Now I know it's a different sport, but this picture will help. See this guy right here?

See his foot? Imagine putting all your weight on your ankle while stepping down EXACTLY the his foot in currently angled at. Which is to say, instead of stepping with your foot, you're using your ankle. It REALLY fucking hurts and I felt like I wouldn't ever walk again. Of course this has happened to me before (fucking divets outside the fields) so I walked it off and got in the game 10 minutes later. Did I mention it REALLY fucking hurts?

Other than a particularly bad Nutshot that caused me to expell my stomach acids, I never get seriously hurt. Bumps, bruises, cuts, I have no time to worry about those, THERE'S A GAME GOING ON GET YOUR ASS BACK IN GEAR SOLDIER! I'm quite well known for my ability to ignore pain.

One of the many reasons I hate sports is that whenever I play it, I tend to get injured.

I've been concussed 5 times and knocked unconscious 12 times by sports balls, have a large gash on my right leg from somebody slide tackling me, another scar on my back from getting slammed into a goalpost and the amount of hits in the balls, ooh.

And I barely play sport at all.
Bloody hell, I'm not sure whether to hi-five you for such badassery, or to advocate living in a padded room. Either way, take care of yourself...

Although I've never broken anything, I have twisted the shit out of my ankles on several occasions. The soccer field in high school was a mess. We weren't well funded and it was full of holes the size of... well a soccer ball.

I much preferred swim team. It's hard to mess yourself up in water. Unless you are a diver. But that was not me.

I wouldn't call it badassery, I'd call it being incredibly unlucky!

And it only happens when I'm playing sport.
Damn sports, trying to hurt the innocent man!

My poor balls always get into the crossfire...

Not to mention that time the best football player in our school ran up to me and kicked the ball the hardest he could right into my throat from 2 meters distance.

That huuurt
