Welp, the first weekend of Formula 1 racing is in the books. Mercedes dominated, Ferrari looked fast, Red Bull gonna Red Bull, Aston Martin might be the worst at everything, and the new kids on the block Cadillac are officially an F1 team that has raced... I'm just happy to see Valtteri Bottas back on the grid. I really hope Cadillac figures things out; it's not a great sign when the car is literally falling apart while just normal driving. In Practice 1, Sergio Perez's right mirror flew off, and like two minutes later, Bottas'
left mirror flew off; no contact, just vibrated off. And during the race Saturday, Bottas inexplicably DNF'd after being told to stop his car just before the pitlane, and a huge piece of something flew off of Perez's rear end causing a yellow flag while stewards had to remove it.
Anyway, I know I bitched about
Apple TV's exclusive rights to all things F1 for the foreseeable future, and I'm still not entirely sold (well, I AM sold, I literally purchased an Apple TV subscription,) I really like all the extra stuff I can see now. I can see F2 ad F3 races, plus they have driver-specific "channels" where you can follow any driver you want for the duration of an event, i.e.: I was able to watch Practice 2 from only Bottas' perspective for the whole hour, which was fucking sweet. Granted those individual feeds don't come with the box commentary or graphics; you just hear team/driver communications, but it gives you a better feel for what the drivers are doing and going through while they drive which is something I'd never have gotten on ESPN.
