G'day G'day, I apologise for my absence over the last...fuckin' forever, life kept going and moaning about sports results on forum posts went by the wayside.

That Superbowl was entertaining as a Broncos fan. Seeing a Josh McDaniels' offence getting stuffed in such a high profile game after all the smug bullshit he put us through was good fun. Should have held onto Cutler you dumb fuck.
Hopefully we can make the big dance next year, was a hell of a season. Nix is him, he can lead us there, a SB appearance and I'm happy.

Avs are winning it all this year, it's gotta be right? Team of destiny right? Breaking the Presidents trophy curse right? Pissed off MacKinnon right? Stacked team right? We surely choke this in the second round or some bullshit you watch. A friend of mine who has never watched hockey in their life has gotten into it through Heated Rivalry and they're having a much better time than I am, the curse is real and weighs on us all.

Nuggets are looking good, but I get the feeling it's gonna fizzle out like the last few years. Too much reliance on Jokic as per usual. But, if it all comes together I think we can make it to the finals and meet either Boston or Detroit. Time will tell, its actually exciting seeing how wide open it could be if some results go against what's expected. Oklahoma are the favourites but if someone can come up with a tactic to get rid of the free throws, you never know.

The Rockies...well they can field a full team, and god love em' for it.

On the home front; St George are shit, Swans are looking like they might be shit, Stoke City are shit. I guess some things never change huh?

Welcome back (for now!)
Oh I'll be back for a while, baseball's starting so I'll be throwing tantrums, NHL and NBA offseason soon so I'll be throwing tantrums, NRL and AFL just started so I'll be throwing tantrums, F1 is getting into gear so I'll be throwing tantrums. Ya'll are the only one's who might get why I'm acting like a toddler.

Yeah, I get that. New job has me on call all the time, running around from project to project and driving all over the county here (and sometimes all across the state) and haven't been checking in a lot.

And NHL, as a Blackhawks fan, the selling at the trade deadline has made my interest more academic for the rest of the season.

I know some NFL coaching hirings and firings can be stupid but it has nothing on the pure incompetence seen over the last 48 hrs in the NRL.

Anthony Seibold was fired by Manly yesterday, 3 games into a new season all of which they lost, even more embarrassingly all 3 games were at home. They'd signed him to an extension in the offseason. Seibold is a hack, was supposed to lead Manly back to the promised land and failed, and before that took Brisbane from contenders to bottom feeders. When things got tough he sat in press conferences after games and answered questions about his teams performance with "What do you want me to do about it?". Lord knows how these guys get head coaching jobs.

Let's also not forget in these situations who makes staff decisions when it comes to head coaches, the board and executives have held the club back by clinging onto someone like that instead of cutting the fat and moving forward. The press conferences have been comedy, talk of "Have been making progress" and "Review processes" and "The extension was the right decision at the time". Suits running football operations, tale as old as time.

His replacement? Kieran Foran, who only retired last season, a mere 4 months ago, and has only these first 3 games experience as a coach. He's a Manly legend which is why he was picked and he has played with all their senior players which is very funny, but if they stick with him that's 24 weeks of football he has to lead them through. God love him, he'll give it all like he did when he played for them, but I don't think I've ever seen a coach more up against it than him in any sport at any time.

If they manage to not finish last it'll be the greatest coaching performance I'll ever see.

Ok, I'm still trying to figure out the new Formula 1 regulations, and not sure if I like them or not; I'm leaning towards the latter.

The Japanese GP yesterday was exciting from moment to moment, but on the whole, pretty dull. The delineation between the various fields is pretty much stagnant, i.e.: you don't see anyone storming from the back or middle to gain substantive places; backfield teams stay in the back, midfield teams stay in the middle, and if anyone other than a Mercedes, McLaren, or a Ferrari aren't clogging the top 5 spots, it's probably an anomaly or pit strategies haven't gone the way intended.

Max Verstappen, who typically could start from the pitlane and still challenge for a podium spot (if not the win,) was stuck behind the Alpine of Pierre Gasly for the latter part of the race and actually missed out on the higher points finish. Never mind gambling against Verstappen fighting an Alpine in former years would have been a fool's errand, so something substantive has changed. Never been a fan of Max, but I think he's pretty much encompassed the feeling of a lot of the drivers AND fans that these new cars... suck.

The Ferrari fights have been fun, and that even came out of the mouth of Charles LeClerc. They've (LeClerc and Hamilton) arguably been the most fun of the season thus far. In at least two of the three races so far, we've seen them dangerously wheel-to-wheel, changing positions with any given second being either of the drivers' to take.

Mercedes looks like the team to beat again. George Russell was convincingly leading the Driver's Championship until his teammate, 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli, won his first race in China and again yesterday in Japan. I don't know what they've figured out that the other teams haven't, but given Kimi has now won two races in a row, I can only think it's that the rookies/younger drivers never got a chance to get "used" to the old cars and have adapted to this new one more easily?

Cadillac. Oh, Cadillac. I knew the jig was up when then entire starting grid started on the medium compound tyres... except Bottas who started in the back on hards. In my head, I tried to rationalize it: maybe him being the sole starter on hards, he could ride out the degradation of everyone else, and gain places when there would be a mass pit session, but no; he fell back almost immediately and was never able to catch up. Even when he did pit, it was WAY earlier than the hard compound typically warrants (right around the time the medium drivers started coming in; ) they put him on mediums with more than 30 laps to go which meant either 1.) they expected him to wear those mediums down to a nub taking them to the end (which would never happen,) or 2.) they switched to a two-stop strategy which basically would have taken him out of contention for anything substantive; even going to softs would have required several laps to gain a single place still way out of anything close to points.

I'll reserve my judgement for a few more races, but if you were to ask me today, I'd say I don't like this new F1. A suggested fix: (and I'm shooting from the hip here,) if it's predetermined what teams have a reasonable expectation for top 10 points/wins, make a tiered points system: points for 1-10, points for 11-15, and points for 16-22 with each tier worth progressively less, but worth SOMETHING at least. Do you have any idea what kind of catastrophic failures it would take across the grid for Aston Martin or Cadillac to gain a single point right now?? F1 is the perfect analogy for everything that's wrong with capitalism: you need to earn points to make money; you need that money to develop the car to earn the points, so only the best will ever truly compete while the rest serve as obstacles for them to navigate around; I guess you need SOME challenge when your success is all but guaranteed.

Sorry for the lengthy post/rant; Japan just got me feeling some stuff...

The Miami Open in tennis concluded Sunday after tons of rain delays and we landed on something quite remarkable: a triple Sunshine Double. A Sunshine Double is when a player wins the Indian Wells Master in California and the Miami Open in Florida both in the same year, and this year, Jannik Sinner (Mens Singles,) Aryna Sabalenka (Womens Singles,) and Taylor Townsend/Katerina Siniakova (Womens Doubles) all pulled this feat off. Impressive stuff.

I'm worried, at the start of the season everyone said Mercedes were cheating or being borderline unethical, last time that talk happened was when Hamilton was dominating. We're in for a very long season if that is the case.

More importantly, the greatest F1 driver in history, Oscar Piastri, started and finished a race! And came second! Amazing what happens when your car works and and complete all scheduled laps.

The one thing I learnt over this race was that the new battery power systems are being discharged at random? Or at least not controlled by the driver? Bearman had that huge crash that seemed to come out of nowhere then I think it was Verstappen said he hated it when it gave him a boost because he couldn't control it. If that's the case it's a massive safety issue that needs to be addressed. If it keeps causing crashes becuase it sends cars from 175kph to 275kph willy nilly then there's going to be a lot more crashes moving forward.

Only three races down, so we'll see how it goes. Let's see if Ferrari and McLaren can improve, as the end of last season proved, it ain't over til it's over.

As a fan, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the new cars, but if the drivers still don't get it, you've got a problem. All I know is they got rid of DRS, now have Active Aero (which is basically DRS) which has similar detection points, and is actively available to all cars on track regardless of their distance to the car in front of them. But there's also a boost (I think) available when a car IS within the "1-second ahead" window (so basically DRS.)

What I'm trying to understand is how the batteries are deployed and charged. As far as I understand it, the drivers DO have control of when and when not to deploy the battery for a boost. Point in case, we've seen a lot of drivers use the boost at their discretion, and not have the power they need afterwards to defend a successful overtake. Lando Norris said, and I loosely quote, "The corners are recharging stations, then I'm slow in the straightaways." Huh? Sounds counterintuitive to my Neanderthal brain, but if your Driver's Champion is complaining... maybe let's take these next 5 weeks off (thanks, Trump, for blowing up all of the Middle East and getting Bahrain and Saudi Arabia cancelled) to reassess?

And I'm with you on Piastri. I claimed him as my driver of choice while Bottas had last year off, and I have a soft spot for him still, so these first few races have been agony: my favorite driver is in a brand new car trying to figure out how not to finish last, and my second favorite driver only got to actually race AT ALL in the third races of the season. I've said it before, I'm not a superstitious man, but it seems odd that damn-near every athlete/team I root for gets screwed in one way or another, and I'm starting to think it's me. Piastri's P2 saved it a bit, but the P1 was right there, so is it me??

For as attractive as she is, I've not been able to shake the idea that American tennis player Iva Jovic looks like an android. Maybe it's the eyes; they don't smile with her mouth. When she serves, she looks like a machine executing commands; her eyes stay wide and aloof like they've nothing to do with other motions of her body. Good player, gorgeous woman, just never seen an actual human so effortlessly entrenched in the uncanny valley.

Anyway, the Monte-Carlo Masters was exceptional. In the ATP, came down to Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, #1 and #2 in the world respectively, basically an unstoppable object meeting an immovable object deal. For the first couple of sets, it looked like we were in for a few hours of competition as they traded points and advantage, but Sinner came out on top to reclaim the #1 position in the world (for now.) Great match between what is clearly going to be the tennis rivalry of this generation.

Oh, and the golf Masters in Augusta happened this weekend! Didn't get to see as much as I'd have liked, but I saw enough to know that if you look up "puckered asshole" in the dictionary, you'd see a picture of Rory McIlroy. Dude twice had a relatively comfortable lead, both of which he followed up with the kind of amateurish play befitting basically anyone else. He ultimately pulled it off and won, but damned if he wasn't watching just like the rest of us and wondering "I wonder if Rory can win this?"

Lastly for the stagnant Sports thread, Formula 1 is spending this unexpected break (races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia cancelled because Trump and Israel started shit in the middle East) reassessing the newest regulations and specifications. Viewership in major European markets has plummeted as much as nearly 50% with many citing that the racing is gone in lieu of battery management... and they're not wrong. In passing, it looks more exciting with closer racing and more overtakes, but from Artemis II, you can see the sham for what it is. The passes are mostly meaningless as they're almost always undone almost immediately. This is my crude analogy, but imagine if you raced your left foot against your right foot; every effort of the one only serves to propel the other forward. I don't know what's going to change, but with viewership in the major markets all but dead, I imagine it's going to be drastic. C'mon May...

Avs secured the Presidents Trophy, oh no, god help us. I know it's said every time a team wins it, but it could really be the team to break the curse, been on a tear towards the end of the season. Still a long way to go but I'm very positive. Unfortunately it is a Cup finals or bust, which is always annoying.

Also, that Montreal/Tampa Bay first round series is gonna be the stuff of legends, pure toxicity and it's still hasn't even started.

Last season the Rockies won 10 games by June, the season starts in April. They're currently at 10 wins and we're not even out of April. Rocktober is coming and there's not much any of you can do about it.

Avs won again, what else is new. I think they'll make it to the conference finals, the question is if they can beat Carolina to make it to the cup finals. Hurricanes are due and I get a terrible feeling we're in the way of a team of destiny, the next month will tell.

Nuggets got Minnesota AGAIN in the playoffs. 2-1 up but fuck me, something new please. Watch em' run into OKC and get sunk on free throws or some bullshit. I can take some solace in knowing that I can blame the Clippers for this but it's still annoying.

It took me until halfway through the draft to realise the Broncos didn't have a first round pick, I'm the consument fan as you can tell.

Nugget's bb wat r u doin?? How disappointing, bounced in the first round to a injury ravaged Timberwolves after the most consistent season since the ring. Arron Gordon was out, but that's no excuse. These games really expose the problem with the team, Jokic or Gordon goes down, or Jokic has a bad night, that's that's, the team is useless. Especially on defence as this game 6 showed.

The only big moves they can make is trading Murray and Braun but they're both on huge contracts which would be near impossible to move especially after that botch. Burn it all down and build it back up around Jokic if possible, or take the hit for a few years and build it up around Jokic in a few seasons. Or, god forbid, perhaps trade Jokic away and see where it goes. If there's a million 1st round picks to be had I don't see the harm, do what OKC is doing and know where the can will be kicked down the road.

Should have never fired Malone, grit was what they needed this series, what the fuck where they thinking.

Reckon it'll be San Antonio and OCK in the Western conference finals, and whoever wins that wins it all. Both those teams have it all over the Eastern teams on paper, it'll be a bloodbath one way or another but it'll decide who"s the best in the league.

Avs swept LA, which is to be expected. I think they can beat Minnesota and whoever the other side of the bracket throws at them. My prediction is Avs vs Carolina (I'm not bias I swear), unless Buffalo is truely the team of destiny and goes all the way. One way or another it comes down to if the Avs can go over one of the Eastern teams. The series against Minnesota will show if that can happen or not I think it can. Carolina have a head full of steam, and in my opinion, have a chip on their shoulder after the recent playoff shortcomings. As always with the NHL, the playoff's cannot be beat.

Formula 1 is set to restart with regulation changes in Miami today. This might be the first time I've allowed media to warp my perspective, because what normally has been excitement for me on a race weekend, I feel more reticence. I've seen enough doomsday posts about F1 in the past few weeks that it makes me wonder if the fandom alone can't kill the sport with their incessant negativity. What makes it even worse is the changes to the 2026 regs are being tested in Miami; of course, it had to be one of the American GPs which Europeans already hate on principle alone; if this Sunday's race is anything short of miraculous, it'll get double the shit.

Reckon it'll be San Antonio and OCK in the Western conference finals, and whoever wins that wins it all. Both those teams have it all over the Eastern teams on paper, it'll be a bloodbath one way or another but it'll decide who"s the best in the league.
I don't follow basketball at all, but my ears do perk up whenever OKC is doing well. I don't bandwagon or anything, but living in Dallas Mavericks' territory while passively rooting for OKC and NOT being a fan of the sport has rubbed a lot of my "friends" here in Texas the wrong way. I'll have to take your word for it, but if the Thunder can manage past the Spurs and their 12-foot giant Wembanyama for an nigh automatic championship, I won't be upset at all; you could almost say I'd be happy.

Welp, the Formula 1 Miami GP is a thing that happened this weekend. Kimi Antonelli won AGAIN, but I can't help but feel this streak of success is tarnished by the fact Mercedes (basically Kimi) seems to be the only team enjoying consistent success with the new cars and regulations. I mean, McLaren and Ferrari are staying competitive at the front, but when you have 4-time F1 champion Max Verstappen spinning out of his own accord and Charles LeClerc who's been battling at the front all season also spinning out in the same race, there's something to be said for the adjustments veteran drivers are having to make. I think Kimi is just so new, the current regs/cars might as well have been what the sport has been all along, i.e.: he's had a lot less adjusting to do.

Valtteri Bottas teased some "big" upgrades at Cadillac for the Miami GP... then finished dead last of those who actually finished the race. I know it's a new team with growing pains and learning to do, but damn it, LAST?? I do take some solace in the fact that Fernando Alonso, a 2-time champion, is back there with Bottas; means it's not shitty driving, it's shitty cars.

Oh, yeah, speaking of tennis, basketball has the Harlem Globetrotters, baseball has the Savannah Bananas, American football has the UFL (lol,) and tennis had Mansour Bahrami, a [tennis] court jester whose display of ability not only impressed, but made fans laugh. Spent a good chunk of my weekend watching videos of him.

Watched tennis' Italian Open over the past week or so, and I've come to the conclusion this is the first sport where I favor the overdog. Jannik Sinner is the world #1, breaking all the records, and basically a foregone winner in every match, and I'm loving it. He completed the Golden Masters yesterday, meaning he is now only the second player behind Novak Djokovic to win all 9 Masters 1000 tournaments (Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid, Rome, Canada, Cincinnati, Shanghai, and Paris) in their career. He's an absolute joy to watch.

But the highlight of my weekend was watching Luciano Darderi humbled in the semifinal in the grandest of fashions. When players walk out to the court, they're expected to hold the hand of a ball kid; Darderi (an Italian in his home tournament) came out wearing brash sunglasses (it was cloudy) and walked right past his ball kid. The poor kid can be seen following him with his hand out like he didn't understand how to handle the snub. Well, is cockiness bit him in the ass when Norway's Casper Ruud routed him in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. He even got heckled by someone in the crowd who said "we paid for these tickets!" insinuating he was playing so badly it wasn't worth the price of admission.

Sinner, on the other hand, took the hand of a lame ball kid in yesterday's final and walked slowly to match the child's pace, smiled at him and patted his head. It was sweet, and my heart swelled at the idea of him winning the tournament against Ruud in his home country and rounding out the Golden Masters. It was hairy for a moment, but Sinner settled into himself, and managed to get the win. It was a great match.

NASCAR's infamous Kyle Busch died of sudden illness at 41. I've been watching NASCAR for several years, and was never a fan of his, but learning that he died yesterday is jarring. He was the driver everyone loved to hate, but he was also successful at his craft and a staple name in the sport; I think every fan of any stripe is saddened by this. My friend was a huge fan of Busch, so when we texted him to let him know the news, he cried. Massive loss for the sport; I may not have liked him, but I respected him. RIP.

Arsenal have won the premier league. They are nicknamed The Gunners. Their fans are known as Gooners. I am listening to radio 6. Many people are messaging to declare what proud Gooners they are.
