Following in the trail blazed by Dead Rising 2, the next Resident Evil game may come from the Great White North. SOCOM developer Slant Six Games could be the latest studio tapped by Capcom to create its games.

A document forwarded to Kotaku indicates that a new, team-based Resident Evil game is currently in development at Slant Six. The developer is responsible for SOCOM:U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation for the PlayStation 3 as well as two iterations for the PSP, Tactical Strike and Fireteam Bravo 3. Named (or codenamed) in the document as Resident Evil: Raccoon City, Slant Six looks to be staffing up to bring even more zombie game development to Vancouver.

When contacted for comment, publisher reps said "Capcom does not respond to rumors and/or speculation."

Slant Six Games writes on its official web site that it is currently in development on "an amazing new project" that is unannounced. That project is being developed in conjunction with a "new publishing partner on a world class franchise." Several Slant Six current and former employees list an unannounced "multiplayer action game" for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on their LinkedIn profiles.

In March of this year, Slant Six solicited work for a "Japanese translator/interpreter."

Capcom has looked outside of Japan for help on some of its better known franchises, including GRIN (Bionic Commando), Ninja Theory (Devil May Cry) and Blue Castle Games (Dead Rising 2), another Vancouver based studio that had its zombie project leaked well in advance.
I welcome this news Resi's shooting controls have well sucked since day one and as for Slant Six's history with Squad based games it could work quite well.

This could be fun, if they return it to the old RE style of zombie.

Fast zombies has been done several times. If you can go back to the old, sluggish, pretty inhuman style of zombie, and then make there thousands of them it would be good for squad based game play.

I mean, Dead raising did it well, but its multiplayer barly exceeds 4 people. And even then its not squad based.

Soooo, Left 4 Dead then?
Only better, and a fuckload creepier. Squad-based Resident Evil 4 would trump Left 4 Dead any day.
I don't know. What makes survival horror games scary is the solitude. Adding a squad aspect gets rid of a lot of the psychological aspect.

Actually that sounds awesome. If they're supposed to be sending in STARS to deal with these hordes of infected, it would make sense that a squad would go in. Especially since, considering they know plenty of whats going on now, they know the situation is dangerous.

As long as you don't get the stupid "IMMA RUN AHEAD AND DIE K BAI" people. They always ruin teamwork games =(

I don't think Resident Evil should stray from it's current RE4/5 design, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

A multiplayer based Resident Evil? So it's basically Outbreak? Yay!!! ^_^
If this is true I hope it's at least somewhat like the Outbreak series, and not just a glorified Mercenaries mode like it could be.

But they already did Resident Evil Games with multiplayer. I believe two of them? The names elude me at the moment...

Thats RE that's team based, completely the same as RE 1-3 in gameplay style, but with three other people. If you wanna try something different, it's either gonna be that again, or they'll go FPS and make a Left 4 Dead clone set in the Resident Evil continuum.

There are rumours that Capcom is hitting the reset button for No6.

Nah, you'd have to keep your first aid kits and ammo in some absurd 3x3 grid and the tank would be replaced by an angry midwesterner with throat cancer.

Left 4 Dead didnt come off to me as "squad based" combat at all. It was more like 4 random people with pretty much no military background trying desperately to get out of...what ever map they were on. mostly by randomly shooting, running, with no tactical direction or focus on specific roles such as Medic, sniper, auto-gunner, team leader. It all seamed so random and un-thought out, even though that's what they were going for it isn't by any means "Squad based combat".

When I think of squad based combat games I think of Tom Clancy Advanced warfighter series.
