So, in order to get an FF7 remake, Square must make a game that surpasses it in terms of public reception, or "Quality".

Really, good luck with that. . . . .I mean, Square-Enix has not made a large-profit in the "fiscal year". They covered the costs of making games like 'Sleeping Dogs' and 'Tomb Raider'. Deus Ex Human Revolution sold well, and apparently Final Fantasy XIII made the largest profit. Now, I'm no expert, but when the game that everybody in the fanbase has bitched about in one way or another is one of your biggest moneymakers, you have a problem.

Now as for me, I am excited for Final Fantasy XV or "Versus", it is the reason I am getting a Ps4 as well as upgrading my gaming PC.

We are also getting Kingdom Hearts 3, my question is: Whats the catch? We an entire generation of spin-offs or fillers and then Kingdom Hearts 3 for Ps4, now how many spin-offs will they make before they actually release this thing? With the sales they made on their spin-offs, if this game is anything less than the epitome of excellence, I will just be upset. Those spin-off games made a mint, they still sell to this day. Needless to say, SQUENIX's KH3 budget should be pretty large and their team should be pretty good. Although, I am not holding out much hope for le story, kind of beyond saving at this point? We shall see.

This can't... How.. Tell me how that makes any sense: "Buy our shitty new games, and maybe then we'll remake a good one!"

I feel like I've been told I can't get any Chocolate Cake VII unless I finish my Brussels Sprouts XIII.

You're not my mom, Squenix.

I think they should please me for once and let Level 5 remake FF7.
I would love if they went back to their old style of game, where they used a core of solid gameplay mechanics as the skeleton upon which they can build different plots, scenarios and characters. I think they should spend some of their money on hiring great writers so they can regain their position as a go-to company for solid storytelling.
As it stands though, I at least expect a some good games coming out of their established franchises that they hire third parties to make. It's all cool, I guess, as long as they stop holding my remake for ransom.

Square has been dead to me for a long time. Frankly the last Square game I enjoyed was FF XII.

Merging with Enix and becoming a publisher has not been good for their image.

I'm curious on what happend to FFXIII Versus. It was meant to be a titile announced for the PS3(a couple of years ago) and it seems unlikely it will be realeased on the PS4.

Why are the new FFs taking so long to make? The massive epics on the PS1 and FFX had a development far less than that of FFXIII or Versus, yet they are bigger(and imo, much better) than XIII.
Last year the director of Versus called the game "The Future of Final Fantasy". Tomorrow there is a conference at E3 to discuss "The Future of Final Fantasy" and the director mentioned in a recent interview that they will be revealing something that he can't yet mention but that everyone can pretty much guess what it is.

Hopefully it'll be news on Versus XIII/XV.

This says it all. And FFXII wasn't even great. It was merely the least of the bad since SE became a thing. They defined video game greatness 15 years ago. They are now low tier garbage.

One:For when thing fans are the ones demanding a remake of Final Fantasy 7 more so then Square saying they want to.

Two:Since so many people loved Final Fantasy 7 I can promise you if it is not perfect to a "T" fans will rage harder then they did about FFXIII.

Three:I honestly don't see a point to a remake at this point, I mean square did put out a HD remake on PC so people without a PSX (I'm using the X as a variable ok) can play it. Which is good enough if you ask me.

Four:If Square updates the script or looks of the characters to reflect the rest of the series fans will say it's not faithful, or they change nothing and fans will say it's a lazy port.

Honestly I'm glad Square hasn't remade FF7, because if it's the master piece of gaming as claimed you shouldn't change it to fit with the times. Because trying to fix what was wrong with it shows that it's wrong and not as perfect as once claimed, and every fan who buys a remake of FF7 would be admitting that. If someone were to "update" a famous painting loved by all because he thought it could use a touch up to fit with the times, people would be pissed.

As for square...I don't know, I'm honestly sick of the kingdom heart side stories to fill plot holes that wouldn't have been there if it wasn't for the other side stories. I mean Dream Drop Distance showed it's issue with the story at the start "Sora and Riku already welded the keyblades with no problems up until that point". The only reason it's a issue now was because of BBS.

One big problem I have with the original post. He mentions that SE biggest moneymaker was FF13, and he mentions that is a problem when the fanbase bitches about it.

err...yea. But I think we have to consider how the Japanese view Final fantasy 13 and even the franchise itself. And lets be honest, they have more clout when it comes to Japanese games than westerners. Even if the game is reviled by the West, doesn't really matter if it is loved by the Japanese.

"Final Fantasy XIII received generally positive reviews. It was rated 39 out of 40 by the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu.[102] Dengeki praised the game for the battle system, stating that the battles are by far the most exciting in the series, and concluded Final Fantasy XIII deserved a score of 120, as 100 would not be enough.[116] The game was voted as the second best game of 2009 in Dengeki Online's reader poll,[117] and in January 2010, it was voted the best game ever in Famitsu's reader poll.[118"

Well obviously FF XIII did well, otherwise they'd be complete idiots to keep making sequels for it. Now, I just hope we get some news about VS XIII, as that would mean we're closer to KH3.

You understand that it's a lot easier to make a big game when you're only working with 2D sprites than when you have to model and animate everything in 3D. Plus they start from scratch each time as opposed to Western developers that used licensed engines like Source or Unreal.

I'm not sure about the 'each time' part, but it definitely is true for VS XIII.

Modern graphics take a *long* time to make. For instance, a bookshelf on the PS1 is just a box with a low-res texture. On the PS3 you'd have to model and texture every object on the bookshelf.
