Why does everyone want a new Final Fantasy? I honestly can't see that being a good thing. 6 through 8 were by all accounts pretty good games, I loved X (Bizarre laughing scene aside), but 12 was shite on a stick and 13 wasn't exactly a deep game. Let the series retire. Take a few steps back to the systems that worked and start from there.

I think they should do more like what they did with Bravely Default. It's pretty much an early era FF game with the serials filed off, but because they started pretty much from scratch and kept only the battle system they could try something new. And it rocked. It seriously rocked. They should keep doing that - taking the mechanics that worked and tossing them into entirely new settings, see what happens.
You say that as if 5, 9, and 10 wasn't good. Also 12 really wasn't actually bad. Not a great game, but it's nowhere near shit on a stick. Also, people want a new Final Fantasy, a FF game like they used to be. Not like the last few abominations.

Assuming this is not a joke:
A sequal to The World Ends With You...
...make it happen Square.

They keep saying they're learning things like with FF14 they claimed they need to focus on doing the right thing for customers then they pump out those shitty microtransaction filled iOS games then remake FF6 in the laziest way possible.
I just don't have any faith in them making decent games, they sure publish great games like Just Cause 2 and Deus Ex but they sure as hell haven't been doing anything great lately.

So, Squenix is about to kill off TombRaider, Hitman, Deus Ex and fire the developers whilst at the same time they're about to fund another ten Final Fantasy games a year with one or two 'other' series where they'll make one or two games and then pretend they never happened...

I'd like to be wrong, but this is Square Enix.

Localize more Dragon Quest games.

Just focus on brand new Final Fantasy iterations, Making sequels for each iteration never seemed to be a core idea of final fantasy up until recently (X-2, XIII-90,000) and each time they have failed to meet expectations.
They either start on a high-note (X) and then take a turn for the worst or they start on a low (XIII) and somehow expect to be able to pull themselves out of it with a sequel; Just make XV and then start work on XVI just like you always did.

I would say refocus Kingdom Hearts back to big console releases rather than portable spin offs over and over again but they are already doing that.

You should have leapt at the chance to be more involved in the Xeno series after Xenogears but it's a bit too late for that now considering monolith are already making X (the wii-u exclusive).

Give us a new Dissidia and please for the love of god localize the Theatrhythm sequel.

I can't believe I'm even saying this, but Chrono trigger ffs.

Did I mention localize more Dragon Quest games?

And all it took was both Final Fantasy X HD and Bravely Default outselling Lightning Returns for them to get the message.

Good...

If only they would focus on new content now, instead of porting old franchises to mobile devices for 1500% more than the average price, I will be paying attention to them.

If this is a joke then its a cruel one. Then again decoupling experience from combat in Lightning Returns (and replacing it with grind quests) was such a stupid move that ruined an already-shit game even more that maybe the backlash was enough...one can hope.

Message to anyone from Square who might be reading this (like i said, one can hope) If you do make a new Star Ocean game, have it carry on from 3 and leave 4 with its wretched characters buried in a bottomless grave, 'Kay?

Then go play FF1-10 and the entire Tales series, see how you guys did some great JRPG's then lost the plot while the Tales just gets better and better? Learn from it Squaresoft!

Yes, i am a Tales Fanboi and i'm proud of it...

Oh, you mean they might make a game related to FFIX or that remake of FFVII people are still frothing over? Or maybe FFXV will go back to the free roaming overworld system of FFI through FFIX? I miss those.

I mean 10 and 12 where all ready questionable... but 13 took the cake.
Damn right
I heard that! D:<

10 the spear grid system was too complicated (and it changed it's own rules near the end) and the story was pants. 12 same thing with the license board, the story focused on the wrong character and took too long to get into the main story.

13 was crap, looked wonderful, but it was wonderful looking crap. I'm starting to accept anyone liking the 13 games now but i'll defy the souls that says they're good FF games.
The sphere grid was okay with me until I realized that it's layout was utter shite when a character reached the end and you wanted to moved them to a section that complimented their traits. If I remember right, getting Auron (read: badass incarnate who needs his own game) into Tidus' section was a pain and waste of sphere levels. 12's license board didn't bother me but the fact the gambits for exploited elemental weaknesses weren't available until well over halfway through the story made using gambit efficiently impossible on half the enemies up to that point. Oh and BUYing gambits and the license to wear a hat in general was stupid.

They originally wanted Asche Basch or Balthier to be the lead, then the execs forgot FF sells like crack in a rehab clinic in Japan and forced the design team to shoehorn in a bishonen protagonist to plaster on the cover. And that's why we have to put up with Vaan(and maybe even Tidus, UGH).

I gave up on 13 about 2 hours in. It was boring as hell. I didn't know how bad it really was until people starting doing in depth reviews and Let's Plays for it. FF is dead to me unless a remake of 5, 6, 7, or 9 with substance comes out or FF15 is a complete 180 from 13.

I'll be honest, I really don't know much about the earlier games. X was the first one I actually got to play, since when I was younger (And even today!) the classics are rarer than hen's teeth here in Western Australia. The only physical copy of FF7 I ever saw was for sale at a low low price of a hundred bucks, and when I tried to order FF3 it got lost in the mail since our postal service treats packages with all the delicacy of a drunken elephant. They're starting to appear online - 7 appeared recently on Steam and I suspect 8 will follow, while 3 (6?) is on the ipad.

And I never said 10 wasn't good - I thoroughly enjoyed FFX, but I just wanted to avoid triggering a flamewar since it seems to polarise people a tad. And I find if I say "I enjoyed" rather than "I thought it was good" less people try to derail the thread :p

Although... you enjoyed FF12? Power to you, then. I tried to get into it but I just found the whole thing clunky and clumsy.

Vaan I agree with and a lot of us know what the deal was there, however I don't think saying Tidus being there for the same reasons is entirely fair.

Tidus is quite clearly supposed to be the main character, Vaan quite clearly isnt, he (as well as Penelo) barely speaks or does anything in the scenes that aren't focused on him and has no reason to be involved in the story beyond being shoe horned.

Tidus on the other hand is heavily invested in the whole plot with Jecht, wanting to return home, looking for Zanarkand, him and Yuna, the Fayth etc etc. He's supposed to be the audience surrogate, as he's out of time and can easily weave any exposition into the story without the main character seeming like a moron for no reason.

His and Yunas character archs complement each other too. Now granted he was decidedly supposed to be there from the start of development, but I don't think it was just to have a pretty boy. Love him or hate him, he still serves the story very well and does what he's supposed to do in the story.

Not that I really have any love for SE anymore, but they really have no business making anything other than RPGs.

Well, to be fair, I suppose they could just sell-out and become a cinematic design studio for other companies :p. I hate their writing and character design these days, but I fully admit the visuals they create are pretty breath taking.

Hey, go figure! Final Fantasy fans didn't want convoluted leveling and battle systems, super high end graphics and effects, real time battle aspects, or plot hole laden wrecks of a story. They wanted a god damn Final Fantasy game! Bravely Default isn't even a Final Fantasy game, and it was the best one in a decade. (Yes, I know it was supposed to a sequel to Final Fantasy: 4 Warriors of Light until they rebranded it.)

I hope that they make a new dragon quest game since I really like 8 and 9, I would also love to see a spiritual successor to chrono trigger.

Personally before starting on new RPGs, they should use the assets they have....i mean how many years has Dragon Quest Vii, both Dragon Quest Monsters remakes and Rocket Slime 3 been out for japan for? or they could even adapt Type 0 for the Vita if they wanted, then reverse import that as some international edition for Japan?

Seriously the best news I've heard all day. I've enjoyed a lot of S.E.'s titles lately, but games like Bravely and The World Ends With You are some of their best that I've played since they started to stray from their roots, so seeing more games like that would really brighten my day.
