Hmmm. I think someone needs to be reminded of something.

<youtube=0la5DBtOVNI>

Some people want mindless fun and chaos. This scratches that itch. To suggest that there was ever any high-minded art intended in the Saint's Row series is, quite frankly, bizarre and delusional.

Side Note: I know that I'm pissing in the wind here, because the people who use this epithet are social outcasts who view anyone with more than two friends as a conformist trogolodyte, but can we please stop with "drunken fratboy" as a substitute for "stupid person"? I was in a fraternity. While fraternities do throw parties at which people drink, you can do that without joining a fraternity, and most people do. Our members had a graduation rate somewhere in the neighborhood of 90%, FAR above the general student population.

I joined because it allowed me to become involved in philanthropy and charity, and because it allowed me to network with alumni who could help me in the future. I was an active member for four years, and now I'm a physician. There were 8 people in my pledge class. One is a regional vice president in a major retail chain, two are engineers, one is a lawyer, one is an FBI agent, and another is an architect. The only member of my pledge class who ISN'T accomplished in his professional life married a rich girl, so now they have 6 kids. He isn't successful in his career, but damn is he happy.

What are YOUR friends doing these days?

I've not bought it yet and I do plan on doing so.

If this game is one where I can just put it in the console and just enjoy it without concentrating much then I'll be happy. I have too many 'hardcore' games so a really stupid sandbox game sounds perfect.

Oh here we go again "Wacky fun is not mature". Yeah, it's not mature. SO THE FUCK WHAT?! Sure, my tastes have changed too, but really, they have just expanded. I can now enjoy films like captain america and star wars while also enjoying gone with the wind and the king's speech. Yeah, it's not a "Mature" game. Does it really need to be? Seriously, this is the best time i've had in a game in a long time, and you people would rather it be all story based and serious. The game was not designed to be like that. It was not marketed like that, it never even pretended to be like that. And I like that. It's not afraid of being what it is, a cheesy extreme gangster game filled with wacky silliness. Only things I miss are the taxis and the demolition derby. And no notoriety codes that work. But it's just plain fun. Why is it BAD for a game to be that? Why? I just don't understand some of the people on here.

I found it quite funny. Not a laugh a minute sort of thing and there were bits where I didn't laugh when the game was expecting me to but when it hit the mark it hit it well.

The ending I chose especially made me laugh at just how ridiculously silly it was.

Also Burt Reynolds. BURT-BUSSING-REYNOLDS!!!

I know what you mean it's less Mel Brooks and more Scary Movie

Although Burt Reynolds might possibly be my best moment in gaming

I think it says a lot about the gaming community when all a lot of people want is to slap people in the face with dildos rather than enjoy something with a bit more substance and depth.
I find it interesting that you fixate on the dildo. While featured in the advertising for the game, it really doesn't play much of a role in the game itself. I've never even used it.

Perhaps this is some kind of subconcious obsession.

Rather the gaming community be known for being immature than artsy and pretentious.

The game doesn't take itself seriously, it's just a fun game to play.

Is the humour clever? No.

Is the plot deep? No

But not everything needs these things.

It saddens you that the game has a following that revels in being able to beat someone to death with a purple dildo?

Really?

Lighten up.
I'm neither artsy nor pretentious in fact I find the pretention on this forum about many things, games included, to be really annoying. In fact I dislike the majority of "classic" games that are seen as deep, or artsy, because the gameplay often sucks. I don't even like a lot of indie games which focus on being artsy and sacrifice fun as a result of that.

Gameplay is the most important thing in a game, I just like my fun to have a bit of sense and purpose behind it and I like to be able to immerse myself in a game as well. Immersion is a game like Saints Row is impossible. I can see why people enjoy it, but how anyone can label a Saints Row game as one of their games of the year, when we've had games such as Skyrim, Portal 2, Batman Arkham City, Ass Creed Revs, The Witcher 2, all come out this year... That is the kinda thing that saddens me because to me it shows that people would rather play something mindless than enjoy something that isn't. and I also find it strange this is coming from a community (not just here, I say community as gamers in general) of people who often consider themselves intellectuals. (FYI, just to combat that I'm pretentious, I wouldn't consider myself an intellectual at all, just someone who has mostly grown past games like that) and yet all they wanna do is blow stuff up and cackle.

I don't need to lighten up, I just care about my favorite entertainment medium :) Is it my fault that I don't find SR3 endlessly entertaining like some people?? Different strokes for different folks, and I get that too, I don't really care what other people play. But if all people want are games like Saints Row they might end up dominating the market one day, and to me thats a huge step backward from how gaming has been progressing.

I'm perfectly capable of enjoying some immaturity in short bursts. Observe:

Sure, I like a big plastic cock up my arse as much as the next guy, but they are not so useful for smacking someone in the face.... I do enjoy slapping people in the face with my actual cock though, thats one of my personal fetishes in fact. Care to try?

Obviously, this all relates back to your toilet training.

Now, tell me about your relationship with your mother.

Well, when I was disrespectful....

... She used to slap me in the face with her cock.

:(

meanwhile my dad was always sprawled out on the floor in the lounge with his feet wagging in the air, watching reruns of Sex and the City.

Basically this. The humor is definitely hit-or-miss, but when it hits, it's a fucking grand slam. I just finished the storyline today and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The only complaint I really had with the game itself was that the first 1/3 of the story missions were introductions to activities. It would have been nice to leave that for elsewhere and simply had more crazy-awesome "real" missions.

Gat: When did we turn in our dicks for pussies?
Sums up most of my issues with this game in one shot.
Main character is a no longer the sarcastic, witty, psychopathic guy he was in SR2.
We let our enemies to run away now?
We take over territory by buying real estate and participating in game shows?
Since when did i take shit from some has been wrestler?
And, while i do like Burt Reynolds, i do not like that my formerly (in SR2) badass character turns into a giddy school girl when he appears.

Now, some of the weapons are good (altough i miss the sledge hammer and SMG's that look like they could be dual wielded), some of the missions are good, but some are not.
I actually like Kinzie (sometimes feels like i am the only one), and Pierce is even more awesome character than he used to be, but Angel annoys me, Oleg leaves me feeling nothing, and Zimos makes me gringe every time he speaks (would be lot better without the bloody auto tune, but he is kinda hollow character so there would be little left without it).

SRTT promised much, but failed to deliver, and in the process, destroyed much of what made the SR2 so great, it is still a great game, and worth the price of buying it imo, but it could have been so much more (seriously, let us kill the bosses in gruesome manner, bring back the stronghold missions and make side missions something you on the side, instead of part of the main mission or city takeover, and most of all, BRING BACK JOHNNY GAT.

Some people find a more mature experience more engaging and therefore more fun. There's sillyness and then theres just total immaturity. To be honest I think we're mostly passed that in games, and some people are happy games are becoming more mature (or at least, making more sense and being less simplistic)

Don't get me wrong, I'm playing SR3 and I'm enjoying it in short burts. But the series' major popularity and following in the gaming community saddens me a bit. I think it says a lot about the gaming community when all a lot of people want is to slap people in the face with dildos rather than enjoy something with a bit more substance and depth. I can play SR3 and have fun for a little while, but I find it utterly uningaging and lose interest in playing it after a short while, because to be honest its just too silly, and as a result of that it stops being fun to me.

I find the series to be filler games. They are there for me to play when I run out of better games to play and feel like having a bit of a shooting spree. But how grown adults can get lost into a game like Saints Row 3, hours upon hours of mindless unending violence with little reason or point behind it... Well, thats beyond me. That hasn't been "fun" for me since I was 14. To me, great games are experiences to get lost in, and a sandbox where things go boom and you strip off naked and run around the streets isn't exactly an experience to me, its more of an amusing time waster.
You know, I enjoying watching films like Blood Diamond and the Bourne series a massive amount, but that doesn't mean that I can't sit there and be a fan for the Underworld films or laugh at Tropic Thunder.

Seriously, not every game has to be trying to reinvent the formula and become the next artistic masterpiece. Sometimes it is both fun and cathartic to beat someone with a big purple dildo or set a massive amount of satchel charges down and see how big a fireball you can make of the next three city blocks. Enter why I enjoyed the hell out of SR3 and Bulletstorm for a couple of examples, while I also am thrilled by other titles like Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex.

If I were twelve, this game would have seriously messed me up for life. And I don't know if you've gotten to some of the bits yet, but this really is a game that deserves its 18+ label.

[spoiler:Don't read if you havn't finished] What the hell did you do to Gat?! I mean seriously YOU KILLED GAT IN THE FIRST HOUR!?!?[/spoiler]
I completely agree. One of the main reasons I was so excited about this game was because I'd get to hear some more of Gat's hilarious piss-taking. I mean: "So make yourself a fucking waffle. We're through here." That is one of his few pieces of dialogue and it's instantly the funniest in the game. RIP Gat, I guess. I'll always remember the end of Saints Row 2, when you fly by the bridge on which he's shooting down waves of cops and he just looks back at you with a smile on his face. He was a real gangster down to the end.

too much is too much, just be cause someone does not want to go skinny dipping in the middle of winter does not mean they want to swim in boiling water.

moderation is the key.
And frankly, there is plenty of complaints people voice other than the silly over the top action and weaponry.

I think it,s fun it,s like GTA being all funny and not serious I really like the tiger escort missions and the fact you can customize your character something GTA should implement.
that doesn't mean GTA has no place in the industry go with SR if you want immature humor and GTA if you want seriousness sadly there isn't a midway yet.

I just hacked into a Tron like data space and transformed into a massive walking dragon with a sword, breathing fire and doing ground pound somersaults whilst taking out hundreds of gang members and another, equally dangerous walking dragon in a "Battle of the titans" style showdown.....

Your argument is invalid, tenfold.
