Yeah, the SR2 PC port was handled by CD Projekt, so after all the bad stuff that occured, Volition decided to handle the PC port of SR3 in-house, hence it performs much, much better.

What? CD Projekt handled SR2's port? No wonder that shit can't run properly. CD Projekt can't optimize PC games for shit.

OP: Go for it. It's one hell of an entertaining game. Lots of content too. Even better with Co-op.

This is a thing with European developers, they tend to have quad sli/xfire rigs with gobs of RAM and permanent N2 CPU cooling solutions.

They make great games though. Far Cry, STALKER, Crysis, The Witcher, Metro 2033, Cryostasis, The Void, Silent Storm, Serious Sam, Kings Bounty, IL-2 Sturmovik, Battlefield, all the Amanita Designs games and of course Mafia.

The PC version is actually quite a decent port, you can also play with a controller if you want. The price is probably the strongest argument for it.

Not only that, you could switch between M+KB and controller on the fly. The game would automatically change the on screen prompts based on which you were using last. I found that to be interesting as I've had games where if I forgot to unplug my controller, it would default to it.

It may be worse contentwise but a game can't be better if it is not possible to play it because it is one of the worse ports I've ever laid my fingers on. Saints Row 2 is just a steaming pile of shit because of this.

SR2 runs better on XP (32 and 64) and IIRC, 32 bit versions of Vista and 7. Performs worst on 64 bit 7 and Vista.

There is a certain bias to Saint's Row 2 which I get and I don't get. You go to a place called Freckle Bitches to get Bosoms to regain your health after being shot at twenty times in a row. You go to a court and shotgun your way through police officers to help out a friend (Said shotgun you get by killing the judge who pulled it out on you). Two people trained... no where really are able to take on armed S.W.A.T. because they are just that Hard.

You have one scene involving Gat that remains as one of the most hardcore things I ever seen in my life... That's pretty much it. The rest is silly. That's what everyone forgets about Saint's Row. It's based on silly. It has stores called 'On The Rag'. You have a shotgun pimp cane. People are more interested that your clothes might be the same from day to day than the fact that you've killed more people than the Flu and car accidents combined. It. is. a. ridiculous. game. that. has. a. few. moments. of. badassery.

In a world of grimdark ultra real game play that's frankly become boring... I'm able to dual wield fire pistols against a really hot speed skating roller girl who has an explosion Hammer. Yes. I escaped from a Brothel in one of the most amusingly disturbing ways that could ever been deemed possible, and I was in danger of losing because I was laughing through it. Yes. Hover. Bikes. Because. You. Can. YES.

It is fun. It is silly. and I laughed. But you know, I can be the mutant. I hated GTA IV because it wasn't as funny as Vice City. So it is what you want out of it. If you want gritty, listen to some of these guys because you're not going to get it. If you want silly and you find amusement in that, look up a few starting minutes of gameplay on youtube and see if it'll work for you.

the enemies in SA3 are harder, which is a good thing because the second game was WAY too easy. I could walk into 20 opponents in SA2 and kill them all under 30 seconds with head shots. SA3 it generally takes a few head shots, and they reel from every shot to the head. Plus there are specialists and brutes with brutes taking about 20 headshots to take down. driving is better in SA3.

And what's with all the damage reduction upgrades? And the infinite ammo, no reloads. Two rather overpowered, game breaking upgrades and it becomes easier easier than SR2 on casual.

Anyway, I don't expect you to agree so whatever sunshine. Each to their own.

To be honest you also get infinite ammo on SR2 without cheats by doing the activities.

To me SR3 is different from SR2 in the same way that SR2 is different from SR1. They are all great but different from each other

I think yes, but there was also those accuracy unlockables that removed any kind of spread, even with the submachines. Difficulty wise SR3 for me is harder, the lack of food, the increase of enemies on screen and those special enemies can be a pain sometimes. In SR2 if you packed food to the mission it usually went well.

So don't spend the points on those particular upgrades so there's still some sense of challenge?

Didn't like Saints Row 3 at all, but if you can get it dirt cheap then get it. I love SR2 and SR3 just sucked major balls compared to it, SR3 was piss easy and short as well. Apparently the SR2 port is not very good though.

I would also have said that the port was okay gameplay wise, but not controls - I would advise using a 360 controller if you do buy it.

It's a good port, works fine. I doubt you will find it cheaper on consoles so you should just get it for PC.

Hm, I don't see what the problem was with SR2 on the PC, mine worked absolutely fine... SR3 ran better though, no arguing that. Of the two, SR2 is my favourite, but I don't hate SR3 in the slightest, had loads of fun and dicked around so much that the story didn't seem as short as it actually was.
The driving is better now, though I didn't hate the driving in SR2 either, you just needed the right type of car (Bootlegger 4 life!).

And yes, SR3 is too silly in places, but you can ignore most of it. I personally never used the dildo once, and I declined the Apocafists.

And yeah, the final upgrades are too strong, basically godmode cheat and no ammo cheat. But that's the reward for a job well done, and now you can dick around like you've never aroundly dicked before!

My mate n I are currently doing a new playthrough, on hardest setting, and we won't get ANY upgrade that influences combat. It's fairly challenging now, to the point where quite early on we had to quit a mission to go buy better weapons, we just couldn't handle the zerg without it.

Buy 2 for the customization. There was so much more for customization in 2. IIRC you could literally have undershirt/bra, shirt, overshirt, followed by a coat.
