Katana (Sakabato, that is, edge on the "wrong" side), real though not sharp. Not that sharpening it would do any difference since the edge is on the "wrong" side anyway.

WHAT?! Hell no, it's bronze, with trace amounts of lead, iron, sulphur & arsenic, with different compositions across all parts of the blade. It hasn't tarnished at all (thanks to the scabbard). So that brings up the question: aliens... it was aliens wasn't it?!Hero in a half shell said:

Against normal unarmored people? A good katana. Very fast and maneuverable. Packs a very mean punch and is surprisingly resistant considering how light and easy to wield it is.
Against armored or "heavier" enemies:
It'll cleave clean through pretty much anything that's mobile on legs. And if it doesn't, it'll damn sure bash it into an unusable pile of scrap and blood.
But honestly, I'll make due with anything that comes with a blade (or even if they don't). Just gotta adapt your style.

I have two swords, neither is good for fighting. One is a rusty saber from the colonial period with the national coat of arms on the hilt and the other is a quite unique looking kris.
My favorite is the kris. It's awesome.

It's a wonderful blade. Very ornate, the blade itself on mine has some pretty nice engravings. Used to be coated with arsenic back in the day, I believe.SckizoBoy said:

Im more for polearms than swords.. So as a Dane, I should probably say the Dane Axe.

Its a spear! Its an axe! Its a hook! Proven times over to be THE MOST effective melee weapon in small fights.

my favorites include kukri, scimitar, mideval daggers, katana , and wakizashi (i tend to prefer shorter blades, more utilitarian and easier for decieving your opponent.) i know some european fencing, but most of my skill is in kendo, and i prefer hasso no kame (all eight directions, offensive) and gedan-no-kame (lowered sword defensive) stances. both are good for tricking, and thats my main style, i guess, confusing and disorienting.
