Stan Lee Mounts Oscar Campaign

Stan Lee, creator of Spider-Man and most of the Marvel Universe, is campaigning for a new Oscar category to be created: Best Cameo.

You might know Stan Lee for his work in the realm of comics, but you might not have known that he is also one of the leading cameo actors in the world. According to Lee, cameo acting is one of the most overlooked types of acting, and yet one of the most pivotal, and this is something he hopes to redress.

In a compelling plea to the Academy [http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/47fadf5a15/stan-lee-for-oscar?rel=player], Lee talks at length about the importance of the cameo, saying: "People think that cameos are fluff and nonsense. Dead wrong! ... Walk on, drop the moral message of the whole movie, walk off. Boom! ... You can talk the actors out a movie, and it still works; [but] you can't cut the cameo, without killing the flick."

Obviously it's all tongue-in-cheek, but at the same time, the thought of Stan winning an Oscar for his cameos tickles me to no end.

Yeah. That'd be a TERRIBLE catagory. Sometimes there aren't any movies with cameos in them. Movies that can use them aren't guaranteed to be yearly.

Mr Lee is probably just looking to get one for himself since he cameos in pretty much all of the Marvel films and thousands of them are being released these days. Although I have to disagree with his statement that you can take the actors out of a film but need to leave the cameo roles in, for example the Spiderman films (whether you like them or not) wouldn't really make any sense if it was just two or so hours of Stan Lee talking about responsibility over and over again without anyone else in the film. Although you would get the moral of the story, that is true.

Likewise, the X-Men films wouldn't really have anything to do with the X-Men if they werent even in it, regardless of whether Stan can keep the audience in their seats for the duration of the film whilst talking about equality and spoon bending.

Anyway, it would be a really pointless category, considering there haven't been as many cameos in films as Stan Lee's. If I had to choose one of Lee's cameos, I'd have to pick the one from Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. It was just plain funny, despite how not very good the rest of the movie was.

Stan Lee needs to be immortal. This man is insane. I want this to be a category, because as we all know, he'd bust a hole in the ceiling and accept the award in a mech if he won.

Definitely. But i'd like to see Quentin Tarantino at least get a nomination. Or Seth Rogen for that movie where he cameoed(?) three times.
And Tom Cruise's cameo was the only time i've actually liked his performance....

As mentioned above, there's no way Stan Lee would beat Bill 'Groundhog Day, Ghost Busting Asscatch the reference' Murray in that category.

i can agree with him to some degree, i have never been a fan of cameos as they tend to break the 4th wall, my favorite wall, but they are acting and they bring life to some movies, but i think it would be boring to see Adam West win every year.

You should be campaigning for Best Superhero/Genre Movie. Because let's face it, if Hollywood's too fucking stubborn to nominate The Dark Knight for Best Picture, well let's not beat around the bush, there's no hope for any superhero flick ever to be nominated.
