a few days ago I got starcraft 2...I was unable to play it untill now because there was a bigass update that needed downloading (not surprising considering its a 3 year old online heavy game)

now that I'm up and running and ready to play, I notice that I cant work out how to get into offline mode

as I understood there WAS an offline mode, anyway after a quick google and reading some forum chat aparently with the latest patch they removed offline mode?

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?

see this is a problem, is it me or even if I play against an AI in "matchmaking" theres also kinds of downloading and streaming shit going on? I notice my game occasionly "skips" and I have a feeling thats more to do with my internet connection rather than my computer

this is a problem, I have an internet cap and dont want to be usuing it up unless I absolutly have too

OR did I fuck up somwhere during the installation? because that shit was confusing and obtuse as hell

I always thought that it didn't have an offline mode, but I may be thinking of LAN mode (which does exist in the tournament version).

It will probably be in the PS4 version

Out of curiosity I just checked and Offline is still there, I just disabled my internet connection, booted up SC2, and sure enough it let me in on offline mode just as it should. I imagine if you wanted to play it offline without disconnecting your internet you could just block its access however, I didn't check to see if there was an offline option on the menu screen.

Incidentally this is with the latest patch. Neat new menu screen, although the Kerrigan loading picture is kinda funky.

yeah...I disconected then booted up the game...worked fine

I figured they would at LEAST have a "play offline" button but no, you have to physically disconnect...aparently they reeeeaaally dont like you being not connected,

- No, there's no "play offline" button. You can just firewall it tough.

- No, it will not download/upload big chunks of data unless you have a partial installation and needs the data or you are playing on a map/mode that is not included by default.

- This game is not going to be on the PS4, or at least there's no news of that AFAIK. And even if there was... well, the MP would be utter crap, guess the SP is doable.

Honestly I don't think SC II it's a game worth playing if you are only doing the SP campaing Vault, but suit urself.

I feel your pain. I was new to Blizzard products and figured SC2 would be a good place to jump in when it came out so I bought the collectors edition and everything. Wasn't able to play it for about a week because my internet was out at the time and it needed an online activation in order to play it offline. Apparently at the time you had to log in every so often too even after you did activate it for the first time (still do? I don't know). Completely defeating the purpose of having an offline mode in the first place (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ

Honestly after that, and the Diablo 3 fiasco (which I didn't buy luckily), my recommendation is to stay away from Blizzard products, at least until they get their head out of their ass. A head which has become overly inflated with the success of a certain popular MMO to the point where it's gotten stuck.

That's not even mentioning some of the absolutely horrendous design choices made in SC2, when you compare the game to Brood Wars (which I also played for the first time during that week without internet, collector's edition included it, so it's definitely not nostalgia talking). Seriously, they need to get a better game designer, he barely has any idea what he's doing as far as skirmish/multiplayer goes (skirmish being the main reason I play RTS games). The campaign was really fun I'll give it that, but still.

I WOULD suggest a simple, quick and in this case, perfectly moral course of action, but thanks to the forum rules, it would get me a ban.

I'm sure you can figure out what I mean by that.
