TNG (the entire series is available on Netflix, BTW)
Not anymore it's not.

(who watches TV on televisions anymore?)
The vast majority of people, actually. Which is why most series are still made for television and if they aren't profitable on the medium are cancelled in 99.9% of cases. In an ironic twist of face internet piracy by millennials is pushing television content towards demographics that are either too old or too young to do so.

That's right, all you people complaining about there not being any mature shows for young adults, it's your fault the number of such shows have dropped like a rock in the past decade.

Anyways back on topic I'm waiting to hear how us outside of Yankeeland are supposed to watch it given it's coming out on CBS Prime.

Outside of that I'm just hoping it's good and like everyone and their dog I also want it in the Prime universe instead of the Abrams one or its own isolated one.

All I want is this:

- Good writing
- Set in the Prime Universe
- Take a page from DS9's "stuff that happens actually matters" book

Yes, it is (US at least).

Unless you mean the movies, then no. Netflix used to have the movies on a rotation, where they'd have 2 or so at a time, but now it's just whatever movies the contracts haven;t run out on yet (Generations and Nemesis for TNG).

Who cares about the TNG (all 4 of which we have here in Canada's Netflix), nobody cares about the movies, everyone who watches TNG wants to see the show. They couldn't make 1 movie that was better then their typical 2 parter despite the fact that all of them cost like 10 times what a 2 party cost to make on TV.

I mean hell they couldn't even made First Contact be anything more then ok, and that was a movie who's premise almost demanded brining the casts of the two shows from that time together. But no, no genuinely great movie about Picard and Sisko dealing with their mutual mortal enemy as well as the tension between them, instead we got a decent ship combat scene and the beginning of the end of the Borg as an interesting race.

I seem to have walked in on a tough spot for you.

I was just pointing out that TNG is, in fact, on Netflix USA, as is every other TV show from the universe.

Damn it, why the hell did CraveTV need to start muscling into Netflix Canada's turf? I'm already paying Bell way too much for my internet, phone and FibeTV, I'm not paying them another 8$ to stream shows on top of the 8$ I'm spending on Netflix and on Funimation. If they want my extra 45 minutes of workpay each month they'd better get a decent anime library.

I JUST checked Netflix. All 7 seasons of TNG are available with basic subscription. I'm in the US, though. Sucks that it's restricted, especially with the strong subtext of human unification throughout Star Trek.

The distribution part on the new Star Trek does bother me. All the Wiki lists is "CBS on demand access." Maybe you're right about television, but all I have is a screen for consoles. The only time I've watched TV on it was through the Netflix option through my Wii. If they try to make the show "channel exclusive" to CBS and CBS only... wow it will SUFFER.

And with a show that has "stuff that happens that actually matters", I think having an internet archive of the show (like netflix) is crucial. What's the weight of seeing a character or society evolve and/or die if the viewer can't see them before the event? Being able to start watching a show at season 1, episode 1 is essential if you want that "weight" IMO.

Like most sci-fi shows these days, I have to wait for them to be released on DVD. And then import them from the US or UK in most cases since it's not uncommon for shows to not be released in Oz at all.

As for the Star Trek CBS series...well, I'm an oddity. First Contact is my favorite Star Trek film, I was 'properly introduced' to Star Trek via the Abrams series (as in, I was aware of Star Trek, but not really into it), and most of what I know about Star Trek is from review series done by SfDebris and Archengeia. Like Valve, I also can't count to three, as in terms of TV series, I have series 1-2 of Enterprise, series 1-2 of TOS, and series 1-2 of TNG, plus a number of movies on DVD (though at this time of writing, movies 5, 6, and 9 are the only ones I haven't seen).

So keeping this all in mind, I have to say...meh. I'm not sure if Star Trek even needs a TV series at this point. The Abramsverse is doing its own thing, and Star Trek Online plus a plenthora of tie-in novels are available for those who want a continuation of the series and/or more stories set in the universe. I know people praise Star Trek for being deep and insightful, and it certainly can be, but it's also the series that gave us Greek gods, Spock's brain, and a number of other unfortunate episodes I'm sure most people would like to forget. TNG does get into my top ten sci-fi shows, but it's not near the top. There's other sci-fi shows that I enjoy a lot more. Difference being Star Trek hasn't faded from the public conciousness, while a lot of other material has.
