EA rushing a project to exploit a diehad fan base? Oh, this will turn out great. Ask all the satisfied SimCity and Battlefield fans.

"Battlefield: Star Wars Edition. Which sounds awesome."

You lost me here.
SW:BF was a first/third person shooter/action game.

Being a CoD/BF reskin SHOULD make SW fans RIOT.

I swear to Yoda that if they make this an FPS without at least the OPTION of 3rd person, I will not buy it, no matter what. I always played 3rd person, the first person option felt weird.

You know, I just want a modern shooter that lets me shoot rebel scum, I really couldn't care if I was first-person omniscient or third-person limited while playing.

I have lost faith in anything dice makes since bf4 came out. This will have to get stellar reviews for me to consider picking it up. Or a steep discount. I might go for that too.

I may be jumping to conclusions here but...

Describing the game as a "first-person" shooter seems like a major sign DICE has no idea what made the originals so loved. It really is a pretty major detail and played a big role in differentiating it from Battlefield. Basically:

Battlefield: more realistic, first-person, PC-focused
Battlefront: more arcadey, third-person, console-focused

Maybe I'm being overly paranoid, but I just get a vibe that DICE picked up the license and thought: "Oh hey, this is a rip-off of our game, what a perfect opportunity to make a cool Battlefield spin-off!" and totally missed the fact people appreciated Battlefront for what it did DIFFERENTLY from other shooters at the time, including Battlefield.

I really hope it's not Battlefield: Star Wars :-/

Battlefront was fun, not too serious and was more of a chance to indulge in some Star Wars battles than it was an actual competitive game. That's not what Battlefield is, at least not to me.

If they stick somewhat close to the feel of the first and second one I'll be all over this, otherwise I couldn't care less about it :(

It was in the options menu! You could switch between all first person, all third person or default had some third some first. I always played in first out of habit.

I can't help but feel that Disney is stood over EA with a massive stick labelled 'NOT ANOTHER OLD REPUBLIC,' as much as the cynic in me wants to see this do as hilariously badly and to see Disney rip up the development contract, it would probably be the end od DICE and Battlefield by extension.

Having said that, the end of Battlefield might be coming anyway.

Don't forget the Crysis, Command and Conquer, Dead Space, Mass Effect, Need for Speed and Medal of Honor fans too.

I always did the same, I always found the controls and animations in first person mode kind of jankey and awkward

I hate it when they use the name of a previously existing game. Especially since it's been like, only 10 years since BF2 came out.

Still excited for it, hope they keep the feel of the original and don't turn it into some boring, iron-sight examining, chest high wall fest.

(This is not directed at Mr. Bogos) THIRD PERSON SHOOTER FOR FUCK'S SAKE. DICE, do not turn this into a Battlefield 4 paintjob.

Woot! Now juts need a Dark Forces 3 :D.
It exists, and it's called Jedi Outcast.
It doesn't exist, that's Jedi Knight 2 (I know it's splitting hairs, but so are you ;) ). Fine, if you want to play that, Now just need Jedi Knight 3. (No, Jedi Academy doesn't count)

I'm really happy for all of the battlefront fans: they've been waiting on this game for years. I just hope it doesn't suffer from the same shit that killed the last battlefield game. At least they are finally going to have a use for all of those game assets that lucasarts screwed the company that was originally making battlefront 3 out of.

I'm going to have my fingers crossed that maybe now we'll see a new flight sim for the x-wing series (or even just XWA on gog so I can play it on a newer pc).

I'm annoyed it will take until Autumn/Winter 2015 to get out, because we have come so close to it being released before that any delay feels like the universe fucking with us, but I am happy that it's coming out none the less.

Let's just hope EA doesn't drop the ball and fuck it up, with bullshit micro-payments or their 'player-first' thing.

Yet one more for the 'don't turn a 3rd person game into yet another FPS' crowd. It's good to hear Battlefront is coming back, but I do hope that we get a proper Battlefront game, not just Battlefield with a skin mod. And micro-transactions.

C'mon EA, this is a chance to prove yourselves!

They are releasing Star Wars Battlefront next year? Is it a HD remake or something because that has been out for a decade.

I agree, I don't particularly like First Person and never used it in Battle front or Battlefront 2. At least it's better than over the shoulder.

This could be interesting, but I have no interest in an FPS. I find very few games fun from a first person perspective.
