I'm looking for star wars expanded universe book (Not comic) recommendations that are (By order of preference):

A) Old Republic Era
B) Other era so long as they are Skywalker or Solo free.

So far I've got Darth Bane (Path of Destruction & Rule of Two) on my list.

The X-wing series is pretty good. Skywalker's only in one book at the very end and Solo is in just one of the books as a leader of a task force.

Don't forget the third Bane book coming out this December.
I have read the first Bane book and it is definately a good read if you like star wars. It is the book that explains why there are only two Sith at anytime. It's a good one OP.

Here is a list of SWEU books I've read and enjoyed that should meet your criteria OP:

Star Wars: Darth Maul, Deals with the timeline approaching the Phantom Menace. Focuses on Darth Maul and a little on Sidious, as well as other new characters that were not in the movies. It only has passing mentions of any other main SW characters most people are aware of. No Anikin.

Star Wars Darth Bane #1 : Path of Destruction, Gives a great account of the way the Sith changed from the mass numbers they had during the Old Republic to the "only two" concept. As well as all the drama you would expect as a good read. They do a great job of making Bane the one guy in the Galaxy you wouldn't want mess with. They even elude the Jedi at the time were becoming more Sith like in their behavior through comprimise of their code to accomplish their of defeating the Sith.

Star Wars Dark Lord : The Rise of Darth Vader, This one takes place almost immediately right after Revenge Of The Sith. They do not focus on whiny Anikin. Instead they focus on the actual Darth Vader really embracing the Dark Side as well as his new physical being and changing adaptations to it in combat and continuing duty to find Jedi stragglers. It makes almost no reference to other MAIN characters at the time and indeed introduces new Jedi characters that Vader must find and destroy. I really liked the concept of Vader being unshakey in the begining and then coming into his own as the Bad Arse we know of instead of the whiner we saw in the prequels.

Again I thought they were great reads. Also virtually no whining. Plus I am little sick of nameless clones and The Clone Wars. If someone meets their fate in these books it generally serves a purpose relevent to the plot, not just nameless fodder for a visual specticle like the movies.

For clarity's purpose: When I said "Skywalker or Solo free" I meant with as little of the entire family(s) of characters as possible. So far this is looking pretty good.
