So on another forum I read a post that suggested watching the Star Wars movies in the following order.
A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Attack of the Clone
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
This order was dubbed the flashback order, and is said to function like a three act structure. ANH introduces the audience to the world (or rather galaxy) of Star Wars. ESB continues onwards from that story then makes two reveals (Darth Vader is Luke's father/ There is another "last hope")which also raises some questions. These questions are then answered via flashback (AotC/RotS). And then RotJ concludes it all.
Now where is the Phantom Menace you ask? Well that is treated as Expanded Universe instead, much like the Clone Wars, as the plot points it introduces either add nothing to the whole story or are explained better in AotC/RotS. For example Anakin's relationships with Padme and Obi-Won are barely touched upon in Phantom Menace, he just kinda meets them and that's it. Also we don't need to see Anakin as a slave as he tells Padme about how he was one in AotC. We don't need to see Palpatine get elected, he's a politician, that's how they tend to get their jobs.
I have yet to watch the films in this order, but I've got to say it could work. I haven't watched any of them in a while so I assume there are going to be a few "PM totally fits here!" posts. But like I said I didn't come up with it, I just read it somewhere else.
