You know what would be great? If George Lucas released something that didn't suck. I love the original trilogy, but there's only so many times I can watch it before noticing epic errors, from acting to badly written dialogue. Star Wars... just stop Lucas.

so here's hoping that Lucas learned his lesson and kept the classics on there.
George Lucas learning a lesson? Hahaha-oh... I, uh, yeah, you're right, he probably has.
I like your immense optimism.

Sigh...I have to buy Star Wars again. How many copies does this make now...? Four I believe. And when they get re-released in 3D, I'll need to go see them in theaters. Man...

If Greedo shoots first, I ain't payin' the entry fee...

Otherwise, call John Williams and tell him to organise the Orchestra, speaker just ain't cutting it these days.

Why did they ever change that anyways??? It seems pretty fucking stupid!

They better change everything back to the originals or give us the option. You know what I mean, Han shooting first and the first guy who played Anakin in the original trilogy
the reason [to make Greedo shoot first] was to make Han more of a good guy.
What I always loved about his character arc is the way he went from a seedy smuggler/criminal type to a hero by the end of the film, it was wonderful. The Special Edition ruins that.

Oh I have no idea, I took them from my parents house when I moved out 4 years ago....now I need to go rewatch them to make sure I wasn't crazy when I said that Han shot first....LUUUUUUCAAAAS!
Han doesn't "shoot first" in the original; Greedo doesn't shoot at all. The "Han shot first" deal has always confused me.

No matter how much your video player box of choice "upscales" the DVDs of the original trilogy (That's New Hope through Jedi) released in 2004 to a higher resolution, it couldn't compare to a format like Blu-Ray that can portray true high definition.
I'm think the word is upsample.

Waiting will be the hardest part as you won't be able to get your hands on them until September 2010.
2010? I think you mean 2011, unless they somehow managed to sneak out without anyone noticing.

And I hope, like you, that it will include the original version in some form, even if it's only an option. I'm fine with all the cgi updates, but Han wouldn't be Han if he didn't shoot first.
considering i saw a dvd collection on sale resently where the the tag on the front says "contains original theatrical release and digital mastered versions" this is seems rather likely.

OT.: as awesome as it would be to see these in HD doesnt it seem a slight bit redundant considering their being released in cinemas in 3-D?

i mean im not sure about 3-D but cant they be put on blu ray?

Ah well what can i say, i know im gunna get them being a massive fan of star wars, sometimes i swear its a curse being a star wars fan sometimes.

About flipping Time. Every one of the Star Wars films was a masterpiece!!!!
...You're just messing with me, right?

...RIGHT?
Absolutely not. I loved all of the films. They were nicely done.

Unlike some people here I recognize good films and bad ones.

yeah the "special" edition (i put it in quotes because it seems to be the ONLY version now) take a lot of the subtlety out of the movies and seem to make things easier to understand by the lowest common denominator. (in my opinion any way)

If it's the "enhanced" version of the prequels, then these are not the Blu Rays you are looking for.

Move along.

Phantom Menace is a bad film. Even aside of the Star Wars canon, it is. In fact, without the Star Wars Canon behind it, it doesn't even make sense.
Attack of the Clones destroys Vader. It's not even a film, just a condemnation.
Revenge of the Sith almost redeems itself until it pulls that fucking absurd lava/lightsabreeveryfuckingthingwecanthrowatit move.

1 and 2 are bad films: 52/100 - 53/100 (Metacritic)
3 is a tolerable one: 68/100
They manage to reach the depths of 6, but can't touch 4.
4: 91/100 5: 78/100 6: 52/100

Still think that score for 6 is very cruel, given that Ebert gave it a 100%. It's not that bad. There are still some good bits, despite the Ewoks.

Yes, Greg Tito, you are a weak minded fool. The naysayers that commented on this thread that bashed the prequels, you are the fools who follow him. There are so many things wrong with this thread, and the clueless prequel bashing, I don't even know where to begin.

Okay, here goes:

1) The title of Episodes IV and V, respectively are called "A New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back". NOT "New Hope" and "Empire Strikes Back". Type the extra words, be accurate, and have some respect for the full titles.
2) Why the hell would you want to just buy "The Empire Strikes Back"? That's like downloading only the bridge of an awesome song. Lame.
3) The original releases of IV-VI, or the "pre-special editions" will not be in the Blu-Ray set. Period. George Lucas improved them with the special editions - including Greedo shooting first....(you wrote the "late 90s" special editions had Han shooting first.) You got the whole controversy backwards, so how much do you really care about or even understand the change that Lucas did? I don't have the time or desire to explain it to you. Greedo shot first. Next case.
4) The Star Wars saga is comprised of six films. I'll accept two trilogies. You can't discount the prequels. They deepen the Star Wars saga and make you watch the original three in a whole different way.
5) If you "hate the prequels", why the hell would you want them on Blu-Ray??? Don't bother...leave them for the real fans. I don't want them residing in your house.

The Star Wars Saga (all six films) is the greatest gift to cinema. Period. I will buy these movies from Lucasfilm over and over again, as home video technology improves over the years. Why? It's money well spent on timeless filmmaking that's brilliantly executed. They're what movies are all about.

Those who don't get it, enjoy your VHS copies. They are brilliant as well. Brilliant rough cuts. Long Live George Lucas for creating the greatest series of all. Star Wars is Forever.

Describe Qui Gon Jinn's character.

Describe Amidala's character.

Edit: Oh, the title of the first film is Star Wars. "A New Hope" was the subtitle added afterwards.

It's like when they changed the shotguns to walkie talkies in E.T.

Hey Lucas! Can I have the original version of Return of the Jedi with the '97 ending? It looks like that of all the "improvements" of the special edition, John Williams made the only real improvement with that new composition, "Victory Celebration". It's just much more poignant and emphasizes better the scene than the original music (in my opinion, of course).

Seriously. John Williams is the man.

Having said that, probably the best part in the prequel trilogy is the soundtrack.
