Okay, i was just having a discussion with some friends about the Star Wars series and we came to an agreement that the original trilogy was the best part, but the prequel trilogy was more lik a cool bonus if anything. It wasn't great but it was nice to have. I was wondering what you Escapists would say about the monumental film series and its autistic little brother. Go nuts. And please no fighting about how much Jar-Jar Binks sucks. He didn't get any lines in Revenge of the Sith and it looks like he was taking his ADHD meds for once. We get it.

I thought the original trilogy was the best, mostly because I didn't have to watch Hayden Christensen walk around for 9 hours being a whiny little *****. Also, Darth Vader kick's an insane amount of ass, so that's another bonus for the original.

The new films felt more like popcorn flicks then true Star Wars movies. IMO

I'm just gonna say one thing about Jar Jar, I found it hard to understand what he was saying in the movies.....but IN THE GOD DAMN COMIC BOOKS ITS EVEN WORSE!!!

I like the original trilogy best, I grew up with it (meaning my baby sitter use to put them on the TV (Movie, VHS, VCR, you know what I mean) when I was a kid) although I was too young to really follow it like most people but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the expanded universe (so basically the video games and comic books)

The new films are abominations of cinema, even taken outside of starwars fandom, they're terrible films. Poor character development, confusing non-engaging plots and cheap ploys to widen the demographic compound on one another until the movies are ruined.

I could go on and on but it's been done better search "red letter media" on youtube.

I never rated Star Wars very highly in the first place. The Empire Strikes Back is the only one I really liked that much and even then it was only because of the battle on Hoth near the beginning (I was about 8 when I saw them the first time).

The only Star Wars related thing I'd say I am a fan of are the two 'Knights of the Old Republic' games.

I'd say most of the haters are just being nostalgic, the plots of the old films have just as many flaws as the new ones.

im a full-on star wars nut, have all the games, own 20 novels etc..

i actually PREFER the prequels and the clone wars stuff as it's a much more exciting world to get immersed into and you get to see the galaxy in it's prime, plus you get much more of an impression of how awesome the jedi are compared to any of the older films where they could just be guys who'd taken fencing lessons at space academy. plus, when you go back and watch the originals after watching the prequels theyre much more interesting, as you can see hints from the prequels in the old films, showing how george lucas had the whole thing planned out YEARS ago. I dont get hung up on nostalgia, i just love the whole canon of the universe in all the films, and the prequels showed you so much more of that than the originals.

What bothered me a lot in later times it that shit they did to the end of episode 6. You know, well SPOILER AHEAD I suppose, but I'm guessing pretty much everybody know this by now. Anyway, you know that last scene were ghost-Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin pop in to smile at Luke? I love that part, but for some reason they decided to take away the bloke playing old Anakin and pop in Hayden, which makes no sense at all! Also it's annoying!

At first when I saw it I found myself thinking: "Well that's kind of neat!" but the more I thought about it the more I started to dislike it.

Firstly: Why would his "force-ghost" go back 20 years in time? After you redeemed yourself, what the thing with jumping back in time to the time when you started on the road you redeemed yourself from?

Secondly: It's just confusing! When you saw the old bloke you could kind of see it was the face of Vader after the mask goes off. Which makes sense to Luke and to people who is watching for the first time (I would show the old trilogy before the new one to people who haven't seen it before). Now instead some kid pops up, fair enough one can say that Luke "knows", but everybody else are just asking "Who the fuck is that?"

Thirdly: Just why?

I watched the original trilogy for the first time when I was five. Now that I'm older I can see the weak spots and a lot of things it does wrong, but I've been fond of the movies for so long at this point that I can't not totally love them. I'm sure that if I had seen the prequel trilogy when I was five, I'd probably judge them a little less harshly, too.

His mother died right when he found her (after having visions of that happening), he has the same visions about his wife, his wife is pregnant meaning he could be kicked out of the order, Qui-Gonn died when he was younger, he gets confused messages from the Jedi about how much they trust him, and he's being manipulated into turning against everyone by someone he thinks is a friend.

I think I'd whine a bit.

OT: I prefer Revenge of the Sith over the original and Return of the Jedi, and as much as Empire. Clones is the worst, Phantom Menace is enjoyable.

Honestly, the amount people ***** about them - the two trilogies are very different for a number of reasons. Making the prequels the same as the originals is impossible, given the settings, characters, period in time, etc.

The only Star Wars movie I liked was Empire Strikes Back since it was the only one that was competently directed.

In my book, there are two Star Wars universes. The good universe has the original Trilogy and all the books that take place after them in it (as well as the KOTOR era), and then there's the bad universe, which has Hayden. So yes, my Star Wars has a gaping hole in its timeline that I fill in with my imagination, just like I did before the Hayden films were around.

Bad acting and non-existant character developement aside, I don't like the new movies because they contradict so much of what is written in the books. I know Lucas has the final say, but there is so much established in the books that those films just kick to the curb.
