Hey all, I recently got Starcraft (Great game) and am now at 'that' point.

I'm looking into build orders for Protoss and I can't really understand their notation. I've used google and info but I just cant find the answer.

The numbers at the side are the supplies used/supplies available, but there are numbers missing in a lot of build orders. Example in the spoiler box.

* 8 - Pylon
* 10 - Gate
* 11 - Assimilator
* 13 - Cybernetics Core
* 15 - Pylon
* 18 - Dragoon (build continually from now on until you have four or five)
* 20 - Dragoon Range Upgrade
* 21 - Pylon
* 26 - Robotics Facility (when 200 gas)
* 29 - Pylon
* 34 - Observatory; build Observer when it finishes
* 37 - Nexus at Natural

* Continue pumping Dragoons / Probes + Adding Pylons

Do I have to make minions in these empty spaces, or am I missing something important here?

Thanks in advance to anyone with an answer.

Considering there is no mention of probes I assume that's the missing steps and also another reason is Starcraft is a real time strategy game you have to know what your opponent is doing in order to change your own build those blank spaces may be times when its safe to customize your build such as throwing down an extra gate way.

Edit: on second thought actually thinking of my competitive starcraft days those are not steps at all the number is the amount of probes you have. I remember the build order was always pylon on 8 probes and Gateway on 9 probes(not sure why it says 10).

So follow your order based on how many probes you have

In low level Starcraft play, you should basically never stop making workers. Solid macro (economy/expansion) will pretty much get you where you need to go. Teamliquid [http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=60601] has some good guides. I'd practice some of the build orders in that thread, as a dragoon-heavy build is very weak against other early units and will put you at a large disadvantage against aggressive players.

I don't think you should conform to such a specific build order every time you play, though this is fairly early-game and still leaves plenty of room for variation. Just my $0.02.
