First time posting a new topic of my own here at The Escapist and it's about this.

Starcraft I was a game that I spent years enjoying and playing and Starcraft II was, at best, a mildly interesting game that I might considering getting some point later in the future if I was bored enough to actually bother.

But that has changed. Every time I try to watch a video I hear the same stupid 30 seconds of audio that is unskippable. I enjoy watching a lot of videos, not even so much to watch them but to have the audio play in the background as I am doing something else as a sort of relaxing thing. Odd, I know, but it's something I like to do and I can enjoy it when I click play on a video and it gets right to it.

Now I have no problem with advertisements normally. Normally, it'll play something once when I come to the site, maybe a second time or two but after a few times that's it. Now the entire website is pasted in space blues, 07.27.10 in various places, flash animations and a stupid dialog line I can pretty much repeat verbatim by this point anytime I want to watch a video. No matter how many, it decides I haven't seen or heard that 30 second clip enough, regardless of how many 6-8 minute videos I peruse.

So this overbearing advertising monstrosity has pretty much destroyed what little somewhat nostalgic appeal I had for the game when I was only remembering Starcraft by forcing me to see the same overblown cinematic 30 second teaser advert ad-nauseam. In th end, it's annoyed me enough that I wanted to break my silence for the first time just to blow off some steam and vent about it.

Thank you for your time and sorry for wasting it, if you read all of that.

The Escapist has decided it's going full force with Starcraft 2 adverts. This is no different from when it did Fallout New Vegas or any of the many other things they've redecorated for games for in the past. You know what you do? You ignore it and move on. It ain't all that hard, you know.

With New Vegas it wasn't so hard to ignore. Starcraft is more blatantly and aggressively pushed than anything else at this point. Maybe it's the dude's deep gravelly voice or the overblown CGI which is pushing into the territory of "movie" which is something I can't stand. I hate movies with an irrational passion. This is just one of the most highly aggravating and grating advert regimes I've had to go through.

Considering I've watched videos on The Escapist for neigh on 3 years and in such have few enough posts you can count them on two hands, I would say I have done exceptionally well in ignoring everything up to this point. I'll let this alone speak for itself rather than argue that point further.

I have fallen into a pattern of pushing my headphones off for half a minute before any videos now.

Movies aren't that bad, but that's all opinion. Even so, it's nothing new in games. I've seen many games that try to be movies.

If you can't ignore this, then your ignoring skills simply suck. It really ain't that hard.

You're going to get a lot of corporate apologist responses in this thread.

50 years from now, when they're beaming these ads directly into our fucking dreams, a bunch of tools will probably defend that bullshit, too.

Let's hope that World War III will completely destroy the balance of power, wiping out Activision in the process. Granted, we'll probably get fascism or a nuclear wasteland instead... or both.

As for the topic at hand, i suggest you stop watching the videos. They're not that funny, if you ask me.
