I've been following the development of Stargate Worlds for a while now being the avid Stargate fan that I am... But I'm the kind of person that would never play WoW, or any MMORPG because I'm tight and would never pay to play a game on a monthly basis. However, Stargate Worlds may change that for me. I've seen the gameplay videos and read up on it and it seems like a good idea. Three playable races to begin with (Tau'ri, Jaffa and Asgard) along with a planned expansion to add Atlantis and the Pegasus Galaxy to the game.

However, several things have bugged me about it. For one, and I do realise it's still in the making, the player models look too stiff and generic. The interface looks like it was copy-pasted from Warhammer and the whole 'right-click to attack' thing they've got going on at the minute. I don't think the right click thing would work around a game that isn't based on melee combat... But that's just my opinion. I'd much prefer it to be a first person shooter kind of thing. But anyway, enough about my thoughts.

What are your thoughts?

EDIT: Forgot this but the Goa'uld will be a playable race as well but they will be class specific and WILL NOT be more powerful than any other race.

I remember that the Asgard are the little grey men looking Aliens, can you remind me which ones the other two are?

The Tau'ri are humans and the easiest way to explain the Jaffa without going into too much detail is that Teal'c was a Jaffa. He was the black guy with the golden symbol on his forehead if you need a reminder.

Not really a fan of StarGate, but I do enjoy the shows. But I somehow think that this game will just end up as a "generic mmorpg nr. 203" with stargate skins. I'm not expecting much but I do hope that the game can prove me wrong (there are far to few good mmorpg games out there).

If you think about MMORPG do give you more gaming for your dollar than any other game.

They only advertise it at the end of like every episode...

I really hope it ends up being good.

Didn't Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment file for bankruptcy a while back? I know they had to lay off a lot of the staff. As for wikipedia...says the game is in Beta...so, guess not. Hope it'll be good anyway, love Stargate :D

I suppose. I do enjoy MMO's sometimes with whatever free trials I can obtain... I've just never been comfortable with the idea of monthly payments for a game. But as I said, if Stargate Worlds turns out to be good, I'll be loosening my grip on my money.

Cheyenne Mountain can't pay it's employee's but they're trying to keep going.

Word is the game plays similarly to Tabula Rasa and it IS a shooterMMORPG.

I am semi interested to see where they go with it, but with Champions Online coming to consoles this year, I am probably going to be giving my time to that instead, as my laptop is a piece of crap that cant run a game without over heating.

o.0 er, no they dont... ok, £30 for BF2, and I clocked, what, 150 to 200 hrs on that game back in the day. How's that compare?

HL 2, played through it a good 5 times, plus time in DM, around 60-100 hrs gameplay, then TF2 and Portal, and episodes on top. that's what, £50 for the lot?

CoD 4 - gah, no idea, spent days on that thing during holidays, heh ;)

The there's Eve. £100 odd, maybe 50 hrs max?

Not everyone sits at their computers 24/7 to get the most out of their regular subscription - some people have lives. For those people buying the game once is enough, and EASILY provides better value for money. In fact hell, paying £30 once for a game you can pick up and play WHENEVER you want, for as long as you want is always going to be cheaper than a pay as you go mmorpg, where the minimum you can pay is the cost of a full month if you ever want to get back in, and even then you'd probably have to start all over if you havn't played for a couple of years.
/rant

OT, I would like to see a sci-fi mmorpg with twitch gaming, and this doesn't sound like it's going to be it. Sounds more like anarchy online, with a point n click interface separating you from your death-spewing P90. Not the Stargate experience I was looking for.

Most people who do play MMORPG do spend hour after hour in front of their monitor. I was talking time playing vs. money spent as a whole to all games. MMORPG still more bang for your dollar.

This will be so out of canon that any major SG1 fans will just facepalm and never touch it.
Why would canon matter anyway? I'm a major SG1 and Atlantis fan and to be honest I couldn't care less. It'd be nice if some of the characters made a cameo appearance but I'd rather it be a glimpse than having them constantly talking in my ear. Alternate realities have been done so there's nothing to stop them putting the Stargate Worlds universe in one.

That all relies on them being glued to the screen all the time. Sure, bang-for-buck depends entirely on playtime, but with a game you can reinstall and pick back up anytime without further payments, you're much more likely to get more out of it for MUCH less. That was my point, and you havn't dissuaded me from it.

I care less about established characters as I do the whole lore of Stargate as it currently stands being turned on its head.

I am a massive stargate fan and I have been tracking this game for 3 years now, it keeps changing hands and was meant to be for the ps one, then the ps2 and now pc, I dont know if it will ever be made
