Has anyone here played Starsiege Tribes?

I found Starsiege and Starsiege Tribes when I was still a little girl. Loved them both, for different reasons, but it's been about 10 years now since I've played them...

Starsiege Tribes was one of the first great online FPS games, it often centered around Capture the Flag or Base Annihilation. It had everything, Jetpacks, Mobile Base objects, Vehicles, MASSIVE battles on an epic scale, Floating pyramid bases that owned...

I recently redownloaded it and found, to my surprise, IT'S STILL ALIVE AND THRIVING on an unofficial server! How many games, especially online games, can make that claim 10 years later? Starsiege Tribes is cancelled abandonware and yet it still has a community of players who play it constantly.

This isn't the game that everyone was playing here for that competiton a while ago? Sounds like it.. and come to think of it naw, that was Planetside. I've heard of Tribes though, people sure talk about it a lot.. I think it made a revival recently thanks to GOG.
Yeah, anyone interested should see http://www.planettribes.com/ for info about it, and info about how you can still play it.

I used to play it all the time. But never could find any good games so I left it alone. I think it's free to download now?

Yeah Tribes 2 was great but the online setup was brutal, so many people found themselves unable to play over a lost password or a forgotten username being locked onto their CD key.

Tribes had just about everything Tribes 2 had, only the graphics weren't as good. You can still play tribes online, at least 500 people are playing vanillia at any given time and the average host has from 30-60 people per game.

Starsiege Tribes is one of my favorite games of all time. It came out just as multi player gaming was getting popular. I really like how it departed from twitch reflex based corridor shooters and expanded into more timing and anticipation based outdoor combat.

The game eventually left me behind as the really hard core players learned how to ski from one flag stand to another in just under a minute and combine the mine and disk launcher into a one shot kill.

You should play Tribes Vengeance, technically the third installment of the Tribes universe. It is made by different developers and only has a passing relationship to the original universe. However the game play elements are much closer to the original tribes than vehicle fest "Tribes 2". It has interesting weapons which lead to wacky power armor shenanigans. Also they incorporated a grappling hook. The Vehicles are less overpowered as the pilot is vulnerable to ground fire and once destroyed they take a long time to respawn.
