I have been considering this for quite some time now:
I'd like to start making gaming-related videos, primarily I am interested in gaming reviews.
To support this idea, I was wondering if I could enlist some help from Escapist'ers. It seems like a very big task to me, perhaps I am overthinking it, but there are many aspects of it that I am currently unsure of, so multiple questions to follow.
I am really thinking - what are the essentials I need to make this work?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I thought it would be useful in reviewing material to have snippets from me playing the game to show as part of the video (it would just be the game, it wouldn't need me in the corner like a lets play video would). What would be the best way to capture this content? The first thing that comes to my mind is Fraps, but is this the best?
To record audio - I assume I would need a microphone, stand and some sort of audio recording/editing software. Any suggestions on desk microphones and software to use?
What are the essentials to marketing my videos? Could I end up posting a video and it getting 0 views? Surely I could, if there is no drive towards the video. Good video or not, people need to see it to find out whether they like it or not.
Artwork and design - is there any software that can make someone ungifted in this area at least create a banner or simple art for my channel? Or maybe artwork in videos like Yahtzee uses stills of stick men characters in his?
Video editing - How much work will I need to put into understanding how this is done or is there simplified software by this point? What would be the best and cheap or free software to use?
I've tried to keep this as short as I can, so as to not make a giant initial post. Any guidance on any of the areas would be great help to me.
Thank you,
Ubiquitous Duck/Omnipresent Quacker
Edit: I'm hearing good feedback on the Blue Snowball microphones, purchasable from Amazon and I'd imagine other retailers too at: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002OO333Q/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=musical-instruments
