I think. I don't know, but I think, if you route yourself through enough routers, it affects your IP address.

They call it static for a reason. Change your IP by calling your ISP to request an IP change. Routers won't change your static IP. Weather your connected through a router or directly, the IP doesn't change. The only thing that does change is that your router is assigned the Static IP, and the computers connected to it are assigned IPs for the local Network.

if it's static from your isp, ask them to change it and you'll probly have to pay for that

if it's just for your pc only

in windows
go to network settings
go into tcp/ip settings
change the ip to something on the same subnet, should be something like 192.168.0.42
hit ok then close
ip changed

since xp uses the bsd tcp/ip stack you don't have to reboot, vista since it uses the 9x tcp/ip stack you might have to reboot

under *nix, assuming eth0 is your network card

ifconfig eth0 down
edit the net setup file, depends on the distro
ifconfig eth0 up

ip changed no reboot needed

If you don't mind longer page load time and zero video streeming you could use a proxy. But I'm guessing you want something better than that.

on your local network (your 'house side') dynamic IP configuration is the better way to go.

on the outside of your local network (the 'tubez') that IP is assigned by your ISP. Depending on what kind of internets you have (cable or DSL) you could attempt to power cycle your modem. but normally, on the internet side of your network, that is done statically.
