I have never liked steam and I hope that this at least opens a few eyes into everything wrong about the current system.
This was a tiny error, but constituted a huge privacy invasion. and not a word from steam about it.
What if the next time you can't access your bought games... or update them, install them, even play them?
I thought this would generate a great deal more of a reaction frankly.

Then again, "don't bite the hand that feeds you"... .. .right?

Simple question, but is it safe to play again games from your library or buy something in your account?

From the limited amount of information given out so far: it SHOULD be fine to do anything again now.

From what I've read what happened is basically a caching issue that Valve themselves caused through gross negligence and incompetence. After they shut everything down it was an easy fix and there should be no further problems. Which absolutely doesn't excuse that it happened but at least things should be safe now.

Of course that depends how far you want to believe Valve's claims that they fixed it. But at the very least the outcry seems to have certainly calmed down which might indicate its not broken anymore and personally I've had no problems with Steam myself today thus far.

I said this in the other topic, but as far as public response times, this happened for 1-2 hours during the christmas weekend. Whoever was on hand to deal with it, almost defnitely isnt authorized to talk to the public about it. People at the top get the good holiday times. Its...just one of the reasons you want to be near the top of your totem pole.
