The right game in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

Ehem. In all seriousness having only played them recently I did not enjoy the half life series very much, however i'm pleased by the way these fans have expressed themselves, and I hope they get a response other than a troll face...

While I like the sentiment of the group. If Valve hasn't released information before, they certainly wont now.

How can people say thinks like "I can't wait for this game anymore"?
I was always under the impression that waiting is the easiest thing you can do. How hard is it not to play the game that doesn't exist? Because that's what waiting is in this case. What else are you gonna do? Make your own new Half-Life game? It will come when it's done. It's not like there are no other games you can play in the meantime.

Valve clearly doesn't have time to work on Half-Life, since they are working on Left 4 Dead 3 & 4.

I remember a time when Valve made games I gave a shit about. Outside of Portal now, I hate Valve. Gabe Newell's diabetes must be getting in the way of a new Half-Life. Or how about Episode 3, you fucks?

Fuck Valve. Not sure why they get so much undeserved praise.
simmer down buddy.
bad form to be throwing around personal insults willy nilly, imho.
hate em or love em, people talk about em - best get used to it.
no offence intended.

OT: I'd really like them to just confirm whether they intend to finish it - I remember episode 2's ending leaving my jaw on my keyboard and wondering when the next episode would be released. not everyone's cup of tea but I loved it.

That said most of what has come from valve since then has also been up my street; but after playing the original HL recently, I think that kind of game still has a place. Best to tie up these loose ends methinks :)

Honestly? HL2 was epic, sure. But why do we need HL3? I would like to see some games using a similar forumla, sure, but I really couldn't care less if it's HL3 or some random new series by a no name studio. I just want quality games.
Um, because the Half Life Episodes was essentially a 3-part game and only 2 parts came out so essentially Valve gave us 2/3rds of a game and didn't bother finishing the last part. So imagine playing any game you own, and then having it cut out 2/3rds in with a "to be continued" and then never seeing the conclusion.

I think you'd be a tad annoyed too.

-snip-

I think what people mean by "I can't wait anymore" is that "I can't continue caring about this game that's never coming out anymore". It's like asking a friend to commit to plans and having them take forever to decide, at some point you just say screw it and go play with someone else. Why should people care about half-life or anything Valve does when they don't follow through on their promises and sell people incomplete products.
You pretty much just made my reply for me. I don't care anymore and I don't really see why anyone else does after this long. Obviously I played it and was excited for the next episode to finish the story, but after a couple years, it stops to matter. Beyond that, I don't really think anyone else should either... well, no, people can and should care about stuff. But, I don't think it deserves as much attention as it gets.

Group: So whats happening with HL3?
Valve: We are working on it
Group: So is a release date going to be announced?
Valve: We are working on it
Group: Can you deliver some better answers?
Valve: Heres another mod we bought up, go play this for a while
Group: You are not answering our quest-OOO shiny new Valve game, we will talk again soon.

yea thats kinda how i see this is going to end
This would actually be a great answer. You see, the problem is that they don't even acknowledge its existence anymore. We don't know whether they are working on it or not, heck we don't even know what to call it.
This group doesn't want a release date, or screenshots let alone a trailer. All the group wants is, that they tell us what's going on. The wait isn't frustrating, it's the uncertainty.
Pretty much how I feel, dude. At least Relic has the decency to tell us that they haven't gotten around to Homeworld 3 just yet, what with them being busy making 40K games (which mind you, are games I dig). And God knows Homeworld is the one series I care even more about than Half-Life.

Well, a politely worded, "what the fuck, Gabe?" wouldn't be completely out of place. They have a large number of staffers who are not working on other IPs who seem to be doing... nothing. If they're not working on HL3, then one has to wonder at the effectiveness of Valve's management team.
