I thought the steam market was going to be a great thing when they came out with it, mainly i thought that they would make it so people who mainly dealed in trading within the steam market could withdraw their funds. From what i understand you cant withdraw your funds at all, and i know plenty of people with $200+ in their account that don't want to spend it on steam games, but they cant. I think it's kind of ridiculous that steam wont let you withdraw money from your own account after marketing with other players, it makes me think that they're one of those horrible corporations that just want money, because all that money they make is going to go back to valve through purchases and taxes. What do you think?

Steam has many issues but the marketplace is one of the things I like.

Yes you can't take money out but its not like this is hidden, you can choose not to sell the game through steam and do it by some other means, the problem there is you don't have security on it.

Valve is a horrible company that just wants money... eh... they are middle ground, they aren't evil but they really need to sort some things out like refunds. They do engage the community and have helped many a budding game developer, which sadly also brought out all the shovel-ware but its a process to work through and refine.

Final addition, I'm no expert but I imagine there's a lot more legal hardship when it comes to holding onto actual redeemable currencies rather than credit.

Why would you think that's horrible?
You can only trade in-game items on the marketplace and you can spend your steam wallet funds on games, it's a step in the right direction. It definitely hasn't gone all the way where just playing games on steam can become a legitimate occupation but it's a nice way to get some extra games from just playing games and stuff.

Also come on everyone whines about companies being evil for wanting money.

I see no problem with that. It stops gold farmers from doing anything to adversely affect the Steam community or an individual game's one by preventing the farmers from cashing in on their "work." Also, you're at least able to use that money to buy a real game, not just more of those cards and hats.

I wouldn't call Valve a horrible company. Yes, they need to work on the customer support side a bit and did basically shift from a game developer to an online store proprietor that dabbles in game developing on occasion, but they are a far cry from others in their industry alone. A really horrible company lies to the consumer or bends to truth, lobbies extensively, even for morally corrupt legislation, to make sure they can make the most profit, creates propaganda websites and organizations that act like they're pro-consumer when they're not, which helps spread that misinformation and assists the lobbying, or outright ignores the law if it thinks it can hide its illegal activity long enough to make the bank.

I'm not the biggest Steam fan but this one you should be grateful for.
As long as their market has no real world value all the hustlers, scammers and farmers are kept at bay because there is nothing in it for them.

Except your unusuals, lel

But naw, Valve is great. They haven't done anything major wrong, and everybody pretty much loves them. People are always going to find something wrong with everything though and just focus on that aspect.

The steam wallet and market are good systems though. They've always needed a way for the community to trade things more efficiently, so they provided this and collect their fee. They didn't need to do this, but people get more things they want because of it. It never pretends to be more than that. If people were able to game it and get real money I can't imagine that would improve the system for anyone but the hustlers and traders.
