Hello escapists i was woundering if you can help me. I am meaning to purchase one of the stalker games on steam but are not totally sure if my laptop can handle either call of pripyat or shadow of chernobyl.

My specs

Operating system: Vista
CPU: AMD Athlon Dual-Core QL-60
CPU Speed: 1.90 GHz Performance Rated at: 3.04 GHz
Ram: 1.7 GB
Video Card: GeForce 8200M G
Video Ram: 882.0 MB

I've been on Canyourunit.com and it says i reach the minimium specs required to run both games. I don't entirely trust the website and also i want it to perferably run on a medium setting so the graphics don't look too bad.

Another thing is that which one of the two is better? given if they run on my laptop that is.

You might be able to run the first one. But don't get shadow of chernobyl, it's way too buggie.

I think Steam gives the minimum requirements needed at the bottom of their store page for every purchase.

Click the game and steam says it's minimum and recommended requirements from what I remember.

It should be ok. My laptop is pretty much the same and runs it ok.

But you'll have to live without the max graphics. Turn them down.

so by that you mean remove shadows completely, no anti analising if so i can live with that.

None of the stalker games are buggy when the patches are released, and steam sells them with the latest patch (except shadow of chernoby, using the second to last patch as .06 wrecked the game). These are my favourite games, and my PC is worse than yours. I run it on minimum settings still get some fps lag and texture glitches, but thats just because my PC is so bad. If canyourunit says you can, that probably means you can. The site has never let me down before.

I really advice you to buy the non-steam version Shadow of Chernobyl. The mods you can get for that make the game a lot more fun, add new stuff, improve graphics, add vehicles... Tons of all kinds of nice changes. There propably is a way to get the mods working on the steam version, but since i have the non-steam one too, i've never bothered to look into that. Never got the modmanager working for steam.
