Steam Summer Sale 2016 Dates May Have Leaked

About this time every year, PC gamers start looking forward to the cornucopia of deals that is the Steam Summer Sale. A screenshot posted to Reddit [https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/4jk4b8/steam_summer_sale_starts_on_june_23_and_ends_on/] reveals the start date as June 23, with the sale ending on July 4. The screen shot appears to show a request for discount amounts sent to developers by Valve, and the months appear in Russian.

Normally, a screenshot like this wouldn't be all that reliable, but this one was posted by a user named MrFreemanBBQ, who has a history of getting Steam Sale information very right. He's gotten the dates dead on for the 2015 Summer Sale, the 2013 Holiday Sale, and the 2012 Summer Sale, so it stands to reason that he very well could be right again.

We've reached out to Valve to see if they'll confirm the dates, but I'm not hopeful. In the meantime, join us in the forums, and tell us what games you really want to pick up on sale this summer!

Plus the deals have not been as great as they used to be. I've been around since the first steam sale and it just feels like each one has less pazazz then the previous one.

What difference does it really make? It's been basically the same crap and same discounts for like four years. It's awesome if you want to save 10-25% on something brand new, I guess, but those never flashed to super low prices anyway.

Oh well. Probably do my usual thing of pick up a few Rocksmith songs and maybe a single game off my stagnating wishlist.

Last few have not been that great, so i'm not holding my breathe.

Very few games I actually want at this point anyway, as so many previous sales have already hit the 75% off mark (at least) on previous games, and I pretty much bought all the ones I wanted that came out in the last year already.

I did get Dark Souls 3 for my ps4 (because I heard there was a ton of bugs on the pc version) and would like to pick it up for my pc eventually....but I doubt it'll go on sale more then 25% off, and i'm not gonna pay that much just to have it on my pc as well.

Add to that my insane backlog of games (over 100 just from previous summer/winter sales) and yeah, don't think it's gonna matter much this year.

Have a few things on the wishlist I'd like to get off. Feels like I've been waiting ages for this one. Or maybe that's just because when the games on my wishlist have gone on sale, they are only like 10% off. So I haven't been as excited as I have been in the past. Last great deal I got was for Fallout 4, and that was with a voucher on some other website which activated on Steam.

I'm not too fussed about the lack of flash sales, I'm glad that it's more relaxed and you can pick up deals when you've had some time to think about it. Even though it might *look* like I'm spending impulsively to others, these are all well considered, weighed-out and thought-through decisions alright!

I suppose, but as someone who works full time and doesn't time to constantly be checking shit, it actually works a lot better.

And honestly, I end up buying more, because I know shit won't get lower if I catch it on a flash sale, and so I buy it immediately instead of waiting and then maybe not buy it.

I really liked the summer adventure sale (either last year or the year before), even if it did get a bit out of hand with the competing teams. The last sale where they just had the discounts going the whole time was really boring since it only had a specialized queue system to give it any variety.

I loved the flash sales and rotating discounts, especially since if I missed anything I could usually wait until the end and catch it again on the 'best of' day. The sales feel a lot more dynamic and really make for a more interesting shopping experience when the prices change.

To be fair, when the final day of the previous sales just puts everything at its lowest price point, the flash sale stuff falls flat either way.

Why would it? The sales usually go on for a week or two. If you catch the max discount at an earlier flash, you get to start playing it earlier.

Your logic escapes me. The complaint is the loss of steeper discounts, not chasing after flash sales themselves.

Not sure if it's because my library has gotten too big over the years or because the sales have gotten worse, but I do remember the GTA V sale being laughable.

My logic is that flash sales weren't a very important part of Steam sales. And you're argument for playing a game earlier at a deeper discount early on, what if you buy more than one game? Are you going to download and play 2 or 3 games just because you bought them cheap or just buy all the games at their cheapest at once? I think the flash sales were to drum up ongoing sales numbers for the 2 weeks.

Now your complaint about deeper discount, really, tough luck. That's not up to Valve, that's the publishers and I think indie devs got sick of seeing their games only sell at 75% to 90% off. Especially the not so famous indie devs. Its the expected market consequence of Grey markets existing (G2A) and the fact that Valve finally does refunds.

In the trade off of deeper discounts vs refunds, I take refunds.

Honestly, I'm a little fed up with Steam right now. It isn't set up to automatically launch on boot on my computer any more, so every time I start it now, it's "Hey, we want you to confirm your e-mail! And won't you consider using a more secure authentication system? And now we're going to tie up your broadband connection and dump a gigabyte of updates onto your hard drive before you can even see the details of what those updates do!"

Don't get me wrong, Steam has a lot of great games, frequently at fantastic prices, and makes them extremely easy to get. But just now, I feel like I should ignore the Summer Sale all together until I actually have a new computer that can run everything I might want and a multi-terabyte hard drive I can devote exclusively to Steam. 'Cuz the 500 GB one... it went fast.

I can't remember which games, one of them *could* have been GTAV, but some games have been caught purposefully raising their prices pre-steam sales, then giving it a higher percentage off to make it look like you're getting a good deal, when you're getting maybe 5-10 bucks off the original price.

OT: Since I'm out of college now, I've caught up on that backlog of "games I want to get, but at a discount", so usually I only pickup one or two games a year per sale now, between time and money I just can't afford to keep buying every game that's on a huge fucking sale anymore.
